I am sorry for being repetitive..i posted this same thing on another board before i realized there was a whole board dedicated to ovulation covermouth this is probably a better place to post my question.

well i have had the dilemma of not having had a period for about two- three years straight. The one time i got my period way back when, it lasted for three months..because i had not gotten it prior for many months. And it was heavy and LONG lasting!!

I am ready to commit now to some sort of birth control...or hormonal drug. Though i am scared to ingest hormones, something has got to give!

My question was...is it still possible to get pregnant even though i have not ovulated for about three years..NONE whatsoever? or could i be perimenopausal?? (im only 20 years old) I am VERY scared of getting pregnant and not knowing because i will have no missed period to give me a clue. Any symptom makes me think im pregnant..i am very stressed.

I thank you kindly for your time, and would appreciate anything anyone has to say.

You can only get pregnant if you are ovulating and you can only know if you are ovulating if you seek help from your gynecologist for a diagnosis. I suggest that you make an appointment to learn more today.

Im just wondering why has it taken you 3 years to go and get help? There could be something very wrong.

i have gone to the obgyn. She told me that she didnt think that it was a big deal, because i started a little later than most (about 16 years old)...but told me i should start taking hormones and get some bloodwork done anyway.
I have a weird thing against taking hormones..so i never filled my perscription..but i think im ready for that now.
I have had no other symtoms besides a missed period so i considered it a blessing at first...knowing that irregular cycles run in the family.
But this has just gone one too long.
And now i am afraid of pregnancy wothout knowing..or on the other hand..being infertile.

Just need a place to vent and discuss seeing as it takes 2 months for an obgyn to see you. Too little doctors and too many women.

Dear Masa- don't listen when your doctor says it's not a big deal. Drs. didn't create us and our bodies are supposed to function in a certain manner so that when they don't we have the first clue. I was diagnosed at 34 with Premature Ovarian Failure, please see a specialist not a OBGYN; see a Reproductive Endocrynologist. Yes you can get pregnant if you are ovulating but you can also be infertile if your eggs are not mature eggs..please get information and the fact that you have a history of this in your family is cause for alarm..This is very serious and doctors in all their knowledge are not very knowledgeable about this. Please go to the NIH.com website and seek this info out. God be with you. I understand all too well what you are experiencing.
