Schizophrenia Answer A51030
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Zolpidem is basically a new benzodiazepine whose main advantage is lesser hangover effect after initial induction off sleep. It does not help much in dyslexia especially if there is no stress or anxiety component associated with the patient. It may help in schizophrenia in the short term but mainly Anti psychotics are used in schizophrenic patients for better control.

wishing you best of health

thanks

Zolpidem belongs to the class of drugs called as sedatives or hypnotics. Zolpidem has selectivity in that it has little of the muscle relaxant and anti-seizure effect and more of the sedative effect. Therefore, it is used primarily as a medication for sleep. About 16-30% patients with schizophrenia experience difficulty in initiating and maintaining sleep or have non restorative sleep; Zolpidem is useful in such cases. In several studies, it has been found that Zolpidem to be effective in catatonic subtype of schizophrenia. Its better you consult with doctor. Do not start any type of medication without doctor prescription.

Zolpidem is a sleeping medicine. I do not think it would be helpful or appropriate for a 14-year-old.
