Hi, and thanks for your query on eHealth forum!

It is a difficult situation to access on net. If the operation removed your sister-in-law’s ovary, then if her other ovary is functional then egg can be available from that ovary. If only the tumor or cyst was removed, then egg can be formed in both ovaries. From what you explained, it seems her ovaries are not functional. Therefore her doctor said that she cannot become a mother.

If she wants to become a mother then she will need a donor woman for eggs to be fertilized with her husband’s sperms. Whether her uterus can be used as a womb or not would have to be determined by the hormonal levels in her body among other factors. Also, whether she can carry forward a pregnancy with artificial hormone replacement. Unusually this is very difficult. Usually surrogacy is adopted for conceiving. All this depends on whether she really has any eggs or not or whether stimulation can help release egg or not. Please consult an IVF specialist for this.

This reply to your query is just for education and counseling purposes and cannot be an alternative to actual visit and treatment by a doctor who can examine you. Hope this helped you in making an informed decision about your health. Take care!
