I am 20 weeks pregnant and I have a very bad cold. My doctor gave me Advair to take for my cough and throat. Should I trust this? Is this ok?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
Advair medication comes under pregnancy category C drug (the effect of the medication have not been studied in pregnant humans, but animal studies have shown that it causes harm to fetus). In animals it causes birth defects including cleft palate and bone problems and also increases risk for miscarriage. Avoid its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consider discussing about the benefits and risks involved before taking it. If benefits outweigh the risks to the unborn child, your doctor might still prescribe it for use. Visit your doctor/gynecologist for further discussion and assistance.
Take care.
