we haven't been the most careful. I took a pregnancy test...

User Profile
I am 18 years old, and I have been on implanon for the past 2 years. I recently had it removed. I have been on the mini pill for 3 months now, and I still haven't had a period. I am sexually active, and I have been with my boyfriend for four years, over the past three months we haven't been the most careful. I took a pregnancy test two days go, and it was negative. But because of the way my boyfriend and I have been I think it might be too soon. I woke up this morning cramping and having back pain, but still no sign of a period. As far as signs kn pregnancy, i have noticed i can smell everything, and i have had bad heartburn/acid reflux. some foods havent made me throw up, but have made me sick. is this normal? Should I plan on taking another pregnancy test if I miss my period next month? I normally get my period around the 19th, and it's normally always consistent. What is your best advice for me to do? Thank you so much.

Early Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms Answer A44519
Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum,
If you had not used back-up protection during the switchover of birth control methods, then you could be at risk for pregnancy since there is no effective protection. The symptoms that you describe could be few of early symptoms suggestive of pregnancy possibility. Wait and watch for your next periods. Look out for development of any other new symptoms. If periods do not start within 10 days of expected period dates, or if periods are abnormal, or if you have developed any new symptoms, consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist for further examination (to confirm pregnancy related changes/signs in body) and blood/serum HCG level test (to confirm/rule out pregnancy accurately). Sometimes you can keep getting false negative results with urine pregnancy test kits during early pregnancy as the kits are calibrated ones, so unless the hormone levels in urine reach a certain level, they do not show positive results. Urine pregnancy test kits usually start showing positive results after about 18-20 days post-conception (roughly corresponding to about 1 week after your missed/altered periods). The test should always be done on early morning first urine sample to get accurate results (pregnancy hormone HCG is believed to be in highest concentration in this sample, and you should avoid lot of fluid intake and caffeinated beverages in the night before taking the test). Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately.
Take care.
