The most common sources of insect bites in the home are bed bugs, human fleas, pet fleas, bird fleas, ticks, Spiders, and other bugs. But the exact insect cannot be identified just by the history provided here.
Most Insect bites will result in varying grade of inflammatory reaction which can result in symptoms like pain, redness, mild swelling and itching.
In addition, inflammatory response of the body, which varies from person to person, changes the appearance of the bites.
Keeping the wound clean with antiseptics and use of topical antibiotics (triple antibiotic) can help prevent secondary infection and aid healing. Use of antiinflammatory medications can help with any swelling and pain. Any associated itching can be helped with the use of antihistamines (benadryl).
