Hi, sorry to hear about your problem. Have you tried TMJ exercises? Like physical therapy?

I have had similar problems. Same thing, Doctors don't have solutions other than pills that don't work that well & side effects amongst some which change the balance of being centered. I can't do any of these drugs.

Symptoms are stabbing pain deep behind ear. Pain back of neck on the same side and headaches and sometimes it extends under the chin.

So on the same day 1 month ago I went to Neurologist I also found Spear Physical Therapy in NY. I had been to another PT before that and they did the same to me , basically after seeing a doctor and a therapist and taking 300 dollars off me, didn't want to take it on. So the new place had a specialist there Carisse Graham. Her specialty is the neck, and she told me she was 100% confident she could fix me. I have been going for 3 weeks and I have had 60-70% improvement on the pain I was in. I have a long way to go still but I had got to such a beaten down stage with it all, I was excepting that I was going to be miserable for the rest of my life. So you can imagine how I feel getting results like this so quickly. She totally got it, she said she could see it in my body after looking and hearing my story. She showed me books and explained what my condition was, how it happened, why the nerves are being pinched ( Actually we took pictures of me at my work desk and I was in the corner and in a weird twisted position. 2.5 years) The last 7 months prior to seeing this girl, I am telling you the pain grew thru out every day , stress made it worse and siting at my desk elevated pain areas. by 6pm I was on 15mg Vicoden as I couldn't take the pain anymore. I hate the way vicoden alters me so I am off those hopefully in the next few weeks if my progress continues.

I did however find that for some reason Ambien 10-20mg per night was the one drug extremely effective for eliminating the pain , even before getting into bed and then waking up in morning o.k. Back in my desk then it starts and just gets worse throughout day

I am not sure where you live but you are going to have to seek out a neck specialist PT. There aren't that easy to find. IF you want I can reach out to my girl for you. Also problem is they require the formal training as the neck is such a delicate area that no one is going to offer to mess with it unless there are proficient. Doctors fall short in this area of the body also and there is no neck doctor.

Apparently the leading stuff in PT is in New Zealand , so maybe you could do some research on some of there sites to see whether you can find client success stories with similar problems?

Lets stay in contact and see what progress is made for both of us if you like and we can share experiences that have worked.

Thanks for your story,

Matt

Experienced User
Dee38,
have you ever gone to a dentist...one that specializes in TMJD and had a re-positioning appliance made? I think physical therapy is awesome and do it but if you have TMJD, then you need to address the jaw too.
