I have gotten the implanton in April 2015, and I thought this would help me through my periods as they were quite painful at times. I tried the pill, but since I'm already taking epilepsy medication, I didn't like the idea of taking another pill as well as them! In anyway, my periods are very irregular.. I mean, I could sometimes have spotting for a few days, or mistake it for a period because it's so light.. Then maybe, I could have two periods a month because of this! It's very annoying, as I don't even know when I'm going to have my next period, and I don't even get the symptoms i useta anymore.. It's such a pain!! Anyone have any thoughts on this??

Welcome to e health forum.

You had irregular cycles and your doctor recommended implanon , and you are concerned that your issues are not yet improved.

The issues you are still having is mostly due to minor side effects of the Implanon.

All hormonal medications carry various forms of side effects and some women experience severe effects while others have minimal issues.

The most common side effects of any form of hormonal contraceptives include

1. Menstrual irregularities , Spotting.
2. premenstrual syndrome,
3.. headache ,migraine,
4. Breast pain, tenderness OR discomfort,
5. nausea, vomiting and
6. abdominal pain, discomfort and / or tenderness.
7. weight gain

The possibility that a individual user has specific side effect is highly variable.

Most of these side effects are more common during the first 3 months of usage and subside in due time. There is no need for any specific treatment or change of contraceptive method in most cases.

But if you have any concerns or doubts, you should consult your doctor for proper medical opinion.

I hope this helps.
