very heavy and very irregular!

User Profile
my periods used to be regular and lasted 7 days, up until 4 months ago, i had one that lasted for three weeks, and on the last two days got very heavy, went through 1 tampon every hr. And since then have been very heavy and very irregular, every other week for the past month I've gotten my period. The blood is always bright red, and clotted(only word i know to describe it) I don't know what to do, i told my mom ans she said i'm just exaggerating. Why is this happening?

Welcome to ehealthforum,
Your symptoms of recurrent and prolonged bleeding could be suggestive of underlying hormonal derangements, thyroid hormonal dysfunction, ovarian or uterine problems. Do not ignore your symptoms. Consider visiting your doctor and ask for a referral to a gynecologist for a complete hormonal analysis and further management.
Take care.
