unsure if I am sick or if its hay fever

I am unsure if I am sick or if its hay fever (allergies)...my symptoms are:

-Light watery eyes/feeling of eyes wanting to shut
-moderate loss of breath/gasping for breath
-severe congested/stuffed/runny nose
-moderate sneezing (but I constantly sneeze on a regular)
-severe coughing/now throat a lil soar

I took a claritin this morning and it did absolutely nothing for me...i feel like i was getting worse through the day...:( can anybody help me with this? should i go to the doctor... i should also point out that i do smoke but am finally in the process of trying to quit for the 100th time but for good this time around.

Welcome to e health forum.

Yes, your symptoms appear to be due to allergy related condition. They could also be due to bacterial or viral infections.

Since over the counter medications are not helping, you should consult with your doctor who can examine you and prescribe you proper medications to relieve your symptoms.

In addition antibiotics may also be necessary to treat any possible secondary bacterial infections.
