A girl I know from the US has a hormonal contraceptive implant in her arm that's not a tube shape - It's like a flat piece of plastic that is barely visible, and feels quite thin to touch.

What's the name of this device? I want to get a hormonal implant but the tube-shaped ones look creepy.

I am not sure that you get flat implants. The implants available in the US (Nexplanon, Jadelle and Norplant) are all small rods, sometimes even multiple rods. Why do you not just ask her?

A contraceptive implant or hormonal implant is a type of hormonal birth control. In the United States, it is sold under the brand name Nexplanon that was previously available under the name Implanon. This implant itself is a very small plastic rod about the size of a matchstick.

It is better to consult the OB/GYN specialist who will help you in making an informed decision according to your preferences about the type of implant to be used.

Hope the answer helps.
