Is My Lump In My Throat Due to Stress?

hi i am curious whether my sensation in my throat is due to stress or anxiety.

i have the feeling that something is stuck in my throat. it is not sore and i can swallow foods and liquids fine but i have trouble swallowing my own saliva. my lymph npodes are not swollen and i am not coughing up blood. i quit smoking recently having smoked occasionally. sometimes it feels like the lump or feeling is moving around. i was nervous that it may be a cancer but i do not have the rest of the symptoms to match.

could someone please help.... much appreciated. erin

First, are you sure this is not the Adam's apple? Lol. Second, were there times it went away, and when was it? If you remember when it was gone, try repeating the same moments, ex. relaxing. Is it obvious, and could it be seen? If yes, contact a doctor. If not, think of other things to distract yourself, try watching some movies, or buying something you really like- it usually helps if it's a technology based item- PC, Laptop, Mobile Phone...etc

I hope you feel better Smile
Again, I'm just around 13, so don't expect much on the answer! Smile

Thanks

Re: Is My Lump In My Throat Due to Stress?
Me too! I have something similar.
I see a red bump close to my tonsils, I saw my doctor month ago, he said what he sees is just a tissue build-up. I needed a second opinion so he refers me to a ENT. I call the ENT and they couldn't schedule to see me for another month! I think my stress is builiding up and my throat symptom feels worse than ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is my lump in my throat due to stress
Your symptoms are exactly like mine. I've just had a thorough examination under general anaesthetic last week where they looked at my throat with a camera, and everything is fine.
When they told me I was relieved but felt a bit guilty. I think that this feeling of a lump is probably due to stress and a tightening of the muscles around the throat.
Good Luck.

Moving lump in my throat - is it a worm?
I'm feeling this too. Actually, I was feeling an exaggerated hunger prior to this and now this lump which I feel moving upward in my throat... I don't know about you, but I think that mine it is some type of worm. When I was 7 years old I put out a worm through my mouth -- It was horrifying. Well, I grew up in Brazil and we used to walk a lot barefoot over there. I really hope that I don't have it again...

lump in throat
omg cant believe so many people suffering from same syptoms as me, i had slight feeling at nite something odd in throat was not sore at all, i left it but had a appointment with dentist & i asked him if he would take a look which he did he said he couldnt see anything but better see doc if continues but probably a camera job, which i wasnt looking forward to, he gave me some antibotics for my tooth & he said see if they help throat, but they didnt,so made appointment with doc which i had to wait another 4 wks, in which time it had got considerably worse & now hurt when swalllowing, he looked & said he could see a cist but that wouldnt interfere with swallowing so sent me to see a cancer specialist, i was scared & conviced it was the c word! i went on weds & they put a camera fibre optics down nose into throat & took some photos & said there is nothing there! i was relieved, but not really satisfied as has not cured the problem! they told me to drink water whenever i want to swallow!!lol!! it is still getting worse & more uncomfortable & now really panicking, hence looking online to night to see if there were any answers to what it could be? no help really so far but worm thing has scared me cause i thought thats wat it could be & even took some worm medicine! as i do have cats & was worried may have caught something from them? can worms really live in your throat? if someone knows plz say!! i dont know what to do now? dont want camera down nose or throat again as was really unpleasant!

I have the same symptoms and for 5 months last year I stopped using my voice much. I'm a teacher so this was a problem. I used a megaphone on a low setting while teaching. I was convinced that using my voice had caused a nodule to form in my throat. I saw an ENT who said there was nothing there, but stress makes me contract my throat and neck muscles. Everyone exhibits stress differently, and some of us just feel it as a lump in the throat. So I started to see a voice pathologist who taught me the same exercises that singers learn. these are exercises to relax the throat and warm up the vocal cords. the first thing to learn was breathing from the abdomen. it took months of exercises, but my lump went away and I talk normally now. I still do the exercises every morning before work. When something stressful occurs, the lump comes back, and then i do extra exercises to relax my neck, jaw and throat.

If you have any friends who are singers, get them to show you how to breathe and how to warm up your voice. If you don't, try learning the exercises off the internet. Alternately if you can get yourself referred to a voice pathologist, all the better.

BTW, although i can talk normally, i prefer not to strain my voice through my work, and i wear a personal voice amplifier around my waist. every teacher should have one.

good luck

I've had this and yes it's due to stress, I had it really bad and went to the ends of the earth to find a cure. Some people have a period of having the lump sensation during stressful periods and it goes as quick as it comes, this wasn't the case for me. What you need is a homeopathic remedy called ignatia 1M and then ignatia 12C read the labels and take as directed but do not have mint or coffee whilst taking or it won't work. This stuff really saved me, I never even remotely believed in homeopathic remedies till this. But, they work in mysterious ways and will make it worse for a day or so before it gets better.. But I swear it will. I wish someone had told me sooner.

No Answers yet!!!
Ok, So about a month ago I got this lump on the right side of my throat. Thought nothing of it for about three days. Had MAJOR pain when swallowing even just saliva, hurt to turn my neck, hurt to touch and numerous other things. Went to the doctor and they said Inflammed Lymph Nodes. They gave me antibiotics 2x's a day for 10 days. Finished the antibiotic the 10 days. A month later I still have it and it has gotten bigger and still have the pain in that region. And it's VERY noticeable!! Going back to the doctor tomorrow for test and hopefully answers. Will let you know what they tell me.

i have this too only i see the lump right behind my tonsils and i know its not my tonsils as i have had many tonsilidus in my days however i can see the small lump that looks inflamated... its very worry some and it seems the more i think about it the more it bothers me i am somewhat worried but still hoping it will go away i noticed my voice is a lil harsher then usual im thinking maybe its a vocal chord enflamation or infection or perhaps or maybe allergies but it never happened before... onyl reason i dont think its cancer is because it seems to come and go. if it would be a tumour i think it would ALWAYS be there but i could be wrong
