hard bump on the back of my head
I've had a hard bump on the back of my head (about the base of my skull) for years now. At first I thought it was maybe a mosquito bite, until it slowly grew to about the size of a penny (and was obviously not going away). You could press this hard bump and it was movable. I finally saw my doctor, who for about 2 minutes felt it with his fingers and moved it around, and he said it is a pilar cyst. He said there was nothing to worry about, and that I could have it forever, no big deal.
Well shortly after that visit, the hard bump became red and very swollen, and painful to even touch with my fingertips or lay my head on a pillow. It started to drain clear watery like fluid, no odor to it, and then eventually stopped. Now this same hard bump has grown larger, about the size of a quarter, is no longer movable and it isn't simply round in shape anymore. Should I be concerned it is something more than a pilar cyst? I have a long history of suffering from migraines, but have seen neurologists and have found nothing of concern.

I was picked up and speared into a wall, hit my head extremely hard and a day later I find a bump on the right bottom of my hairline. This bump does hurt; its been causing me to get nauseas and sleepy, getting headaches, and having dizzy spells. When I woke up this morning I could barely lift up my head it felt like it was 200lbs. The whole bottom of my head is very tender. My dad tells me to go to the hospital but im not sure i want to because ive read so many post that say its practically nothing. i dont have insurance so i dont wanna go in debt wit any hopital bills.

Lump on back of head
Two days ago I noticed a sore area on the back of my head near my hairline on the left side. Then yesterday I noticed that it was a big lump, about the size of a walnut. This morning I notice a marble sized lump on the right side, just behind my ear. I am very concerned and have scheduled an appointment with my Dr. for Monday morning. I have been having headaches and my vision is blurry at times. It shouldn't be blurry because I had lasik eye surgery a few years ago and have almost perfect vision. It seems so many people have the same thing in the exact same area. Very strange. I will post again after my Dr. appointment on Monday. Hopefully it is just stress or an infected hair folicle or something simple like that. We will see!!!

I had a similar thing as well. Read the comment above yours. I went to the Dr on Monday although they had already started getting smaller. She said it was just lymphnodes and nothing to worry about, especially since they were getting smaller. She said just keep an eye on them. Could be the same thing or something totally different. You might get it checked out if it doesn't start getting smaller in a few days. Good luck!

I have recently found a knot on the right side of my head and have been having intense headaches, blurred vision and ringing in my ears. The knot itself is sensitive but not real painful. I am absolutely petrified of what it may be. Can anyone shed any light on these symptoms?

somone help in horrible pain
I have been having some wierd things - the past couple of days I have had a pain in the back of my head at the base of my skull on the right side. Today the pain seems to be much worse, I feel a little dizzy and as the day progressed that side of my head hurt more and my right ear strated to feel very warm -see what I mean by wierd.

I had the exact same symptoms two weeks ago only on the left side of my skull at the hairline.

When this started hurting more this am I noticed a lump on the back of my head that hurts to the touch in the same area that the pain was coming from. I am also having pain in my right hand and arm as well as some tingling and numbness in my right pinky finger and ring finger on my right hand? Anyone have any idea what this might be.

Me Too!
This is crazy. I have the same damn lump/bump. It's painful to the touch and I am quite aware of it on it's own. First I thought it was a pimple or a spider bite but there is not evidence of that. I am at a loss. I am prone to migraines and neck tension.

Two lumps on the back of head
I also have two lumps on the back of my head. They are if you draw a line from the bump on the back of my head to the ear they are level with the top of my ear.

I have had a doctor who VERY briefly felt the lumps say they are just part of my skull... AND a Chiropractor say that they are normal parts of my skull but she said we would keep an eye on it.

The one on the right side is MUCH bigger than the left. They are on the back of the head on either side of the spine.

They feel like a a marble half embedded into my skull and only the top part sticks out.

My symptoms:

LOTS and LOTS of visual floaters.
Mild dizziness
Jaw pain

PLEASE anyone who comes and posts here. . . Save this link!! and come back and post what you have or have not found out about the lumps on the back of your heads!

I will for sure come back and post any and everything I find out.

Oh and I am a 26 yr old Female..

Hello! I also found a lump at the left side specifically at the bottom of my skull. It's not painful but I can't seem to shrink it. It came out after a week of occassional blurred vision. What do you think is it?

dealing with bone spur since infancy
I am dealing with a bone spur on the back of my head and its been there since I was a baby, Sometimes its swells up to the size of a paint gun ball and causes me to come down with severe headaches or migraines when it flares up, I have went about a week straight or more dealing with a headache or migraine that knocks me out completely, Its keeping me from getting a job and from having a normal life if anyone smacks the back of my head or touches it it knocks me out. I been to doctors and none of them seems to be able to help me or just not willing to try, I dont know what else to do I am thinking about going for removal if I can find a doctor willing to work with me, anyone with any advice please help me. Thanks

I have discovered about three days ago the same as many of you have explained. There is a lump out of no where on the backof my head near my hairline close to my ear. It is painful to touch and has caused me headaches. Today I have noticed that I have been feeling dizzy and nauceus. The doctor told me it could be a scalp lesion or absece(is that spelled right?) He gave me bactrim and vicodin for the pain...it has been two days I still have the lump and the pain...I need a second opinion

I found some comforting information!
I'm going to the doc this week to request an MRI for my head bump. I've had it for a year, but it has recently grown a smidge and is sore (possibly because I've been poking at it. Mine is on the left, about an inch behind the top of my ear, and itches like mad sometimes, but feels more like bone than flesh- if I wiggle the skin it does not move with the skin.

i also have a lump on my nape. it's really hard and it's in the middle. it's not noticeable but you can feel it when you press it hard. when i tilt my head down i can't feel it. but when i tilt my head up i can feel it. it's hard like a marble it's kind of slightly larger than a marble. i don't feel ill or anything but i sometimes feel stiff when i lay flat on my stomach; (my head tilts sort of vertically) using my laptop. And when i strain my neck from doing some paper works, long drives where i cannot rest my head etc. what i do is i just rest and i just goes away. if it's really stiff i put some "salonpas" pain relief patch, eventually the stiffness goes away but the lump is still there. i can't actually notice if it's getting bigger because you can't really tell that i have a lump unless you press my nape hard. i hope this is not serious. i hope all will be well for us guys. take care... ; )
