pimples around lump
To anyone who has some pimples around the swollen lump behind their ear:
When I found the bump behind my ear I asked my mom, who is a registered nurse, what it could be. The first thing she asked me was if I had an infection in my earring hole or did I have any pimples around the swollen bump? She says if there is an infection such as a zit, the lymph node in that area can swell up. Hopefully that is why you have that bump. I didn't have any pimples or earring hole infections so I am a little bit worried. I don't feel sick so I don't know what this thing is trying to fight off. The more I touch it, the more is swells up. I am going to leave it alone for a few days to see if the swelling goes down and if not, I will have to see a doctor (ugh).

I hope all of you get better!

Scary lump
San54- I am recently recovering from the flu, ear infection, and strep. My back started aching me about 2 weeks ago, to the point where i couldnt get out off bed, but it has gotten better. I have blown off the problem, thinking its just effects of the flu. I now have found a small lump behind my ear, which doesnt hurt, and its been here for about 3 weeks. I am also having trouble hearing through that ear (again i blew off that problem too). Ive been having headaches close to that area too. Ive been on amoxicillin, cypril, and i am now on augmentin, and none have seemed to help my ear. I am getting kinda nervous.

Bump behind ear
I have had a tender bump behind my ear for over a year, talked to my doctor yesterday and she said it's from brown hair dye my stylist is using. I thought that seemed weird. She said I have a small bump behind my other ear too.

Lump on backof my neck
I have a small lump on the back of my neck as well, it is not painful, nor tender to touch I was having a difficult time sleeping due to neck pain and when I turn my head it is somewhat painful but the lump itself is not, no fever but I have been a little run down, I went to my Dr. who performed a x-ray to check my spine, which was normal, I had some lab drawn which was normal as well no infection, I also had a CT done which showed an enlarged lymph node in the back of my neck. Why would the lymph node be enlarged if there is no infection?? My Dr said to watch it for 6 weeks and come back if it is still there I have had it for a month before I went to the Dr. anyone have a clue as to what is going on with me?? Thanks

Lump behind ear
My son has a hard lump (feels like a bone)behind both of his ears. One is more pronounced then the other. He has had them for years. I have asked his physician several times about it and even told her that those were his lymph nodes, and her reply is that some people just have them. She then showed my son the one behind her ear. My son developed a scab on his scalp and then started getting large flakes, then more scabs. They began to bleed. I took him to his physician and they gave him antibotics. They worked a little. They didn't clear up completely so I took him to a very good Dermatologist. She did a lot of blood work and found that he had a baterial and fungal infection. She gave him oral antibiotics, topical antibiotics, special shampoos and a whole battery of other medicine. It cleared up and the knot behind his ear went down a lot. He still has one behind each ear but you could see that the one that was really swollen went way down. Now here we are almost a year later and his scalp is flaring up again (whenever he gets a low haircut it seems to bother his scalp) and the knot behind one of his ears has gotten really big again and he has two soft swollen knots on the back of his head. I am taking him to a Dermatologist again and will update you on what happens.

Many years ago I got a little lump behind my ear and I ran to the doctor thinking I had some horrible cancer. She told me it was nothing to worry about. I have had many little lumps come and go behind my ear since then and I pay no attention to them. As someone said previously, they are just little nodes that end up behind the ear after a cold or flu has started to leave the body. I had the flu last week and they just lined up behind my ear. They are nothing more than pimples and will go away after time. Just keep the skin clean behind your ears and don't pick or squeeze it. Just leave it alone.

Lumps behind your ear
Hi All,
Just wanted to post that if your lump in due to an infection your lymph node closest to the infected area will swell up. More often than not the node will hurt. This is because it limits the infection spreading to the general blood stream. A lymph nodes job. So check your ears, any scratches or bites (fleas for example)Sores on your head etc. Usually an infection in your ear would cause your ear lymph nodes to swell up. Usually you will need anti biotics to clear the infection. Cancereous lumps can hurt, but generally only when they start to grow big enough to push into its invading tissue. So if your lump is quite solid feeling and is growing get it checked out if no infection is present. Good luck all.

I just went to the doctor today with the pain behind my right ear at that nice little bump. Usually, the bump goes away, but, this time, headaches ensued with the bump, along with pretty bad pain.

I have had thyroid problems in the past, but, have since stopped taking that medication. Should I look into getting back on it, so this painful accurance doesn't happen again?

I just wanted to let you know this happened to me a year ago. My armpit was swollen, and sore, and my lymph was swollen, but didn't hurt. The swelling did stop after a week or so. I take barely green, and it makes the swelling go down. When i eat cheese my lymph node swells. I think the food industry places unhealthy things in our food, and our body has to fight extra hard to prevent disease. If you ever want to talk, you know where to find me.

Its Cancer, Please help?
Ok as I have just been Informed by my doctor that I have base of the Tongue Cancer, with a 50/50 chance of survival till the next five years and there is a good chance it will be the HPV that have started the cancer, I am obviously very worried.

I am going to rather than have my tongue taken out as was suggested, try to zap my left swollen and aching lymph node, treated with radiation and chem, so I hope that will shrink also the half cancerous base of my tongue and my left lymph node, soI can survive 5 years or more with some sort of quality of life

Any one else had similar and what canI expect as far as the treatment is concerned.

HPV is same as Cervical Cancer, but lodges at base of the Tongue
Yes HPV same Virus as sexual warts, is some thing you can only get from Oral sex, at the base of the Tongue, it is very much like The Cervics in a woman's womb, where they get cervical Cancer, this is the same, but it lodges its self in the base of the Tongue.

I have this and I have swollen Lymph Nodes now 6 cm in size, I am about to start with Radiation and Chemo Therapy hoping as many do, to beat this and be a long time survivor, as with the many people I speak to, on my other Forum "Oral cancersupport- survivors" US, go there your learn a lot.

Teacher Jon, goto "Introductions", 'Please Help' your find me. there.
