ovulate without period??? (Page 1)

Hey girls!!! I was jw can you ovulate with out having a period??? I have not had one for over 3 months now, went to dr. and she gave me provera...i took the pills for 10 days and have still not gotten a period. My last pill was last tuesday. We desperatly want a baby and this is driving us both crazy!!! I called my dr. office today and the girl that i was talking to said that i should still ovulate even though i do not get a period. How is that possible??? It does not make any since to me. Could you girls please give me some advice and let me know if any of you have been through this before??? Anything would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks for your help!!! Very Happy

You can ovulate before your period comes back, but you will get your period after that ovulation. Otherwise, each ovulation would cause the uterine lining to just get thicker and thicker, and that can't be too healthy.

Did your doctor's office staff mean that you could ovulate month after month without a period, or just once?

I think she meant you can go that long without a period and still ovulate. Once. It would just be a really long cycle. But you wouldn't actually ovulate monthly.

It can take up to 10 days from your last pill (of provera) to get af. I've gone 2 weeks before. Then there was one time that it didn't work for me at all and I had to do a full hormone cycle (both estrogen and progesterone) to start af.

Let us know what the actual doctor tells you!

Yes it's possible!
Hello. I got pregnant in December of 2006 but had not had a period for 5 months prior to conception. When we found out I was pregnant, we assumed I must be 4-5 months along, however I was only 5-6 weeks along! Unfortunately I miscarried at 10 weeks, but I wanted to let you know that yes, you can get pregnant even if are not having periods. I'm not sure of the science of it, but it happens. And don't worry about miscarriage related to it...it has nothing to do with not having periods! Good luck to you!

pregnant with no periods
I never had a normal period cycle. sometimes going a full year without a periods. Unless I was on birth control that would make me have periods but I had recently gone off BC and started having a period about every 3 months. I had sex once and he still pulled out even though I knew the chances of getting pregnant were small because I had not had a period for 3 months so I was very surprised to find myself 6 weeks pregnant.

Well for you to get pregnant you need to have the egg going down the tube, so if you arent having periods (when it comes out) then i dont see how you can get pregnant. If you havent had a period for 6 months, and you clearly arent pregnant (i think you'd know if you were 6 months pregnant), then I would have thought there was something else happening there. Maybe you should go back to the doctor and ask for some tests to be done to put your mind at ease, thats what they are there for.

when to expect period?
Hi mc4eva02, you said it can take upto 10 days after your last pill to have a period. Is this how long it normally takes as i am on microgynon and stopped taking mine on 2nd march and just wondering roughly how long it takes. Also do I count from the loast day of my last pill that I took? I know everyone is different but any info would be very grateful

Yep! It happened to my daughter not once but twice. She has had only 6 periods in 6 years and she has a 2 year old and is pregnant again. Her last period was 5 months ago and she is 4 weeks pregnant. She does not use contraceptives. She has severe PCOS and was told she would never have children. She was an endurance athlete in HS. and college so amennorhea goes hand in hand with that. Go Figure.

I went 18 Months without a period and then i got it back for two months and ended up pregnant..... i have a healthy little boy that is turning 3 yrs old now..... i too don''t have my periods ... i just went almost two years without one and then it came back again, for three months. but i have a cyst on my right ovarie and a fibro in my uterus now.... went through all the treatments to find out why i wasn''t getting pregnant and they found nothing wrong with me at that point....that was in 2005 and my son was born in 2007.....so you can still get pregnant..... they told me the cyst on my ovary is my problem now from having periods. I wish you all the luck in the world.

bdbeggs, You need to speak to your doctor about it. Ovulation and menstruation are two twins that normally goes together. Your doctor can determine if you ovulate and he/she has some special medicines that can try to kick-start your cycles if you are not ovulating.

Best of luck!

I am 42 and have had my "tubes tied" for 6 yrs now. I take Loestrin 24 to help with heavy menstrual flow. I am almost 100% sure that I have been ovualating every month. However, I haven't had a period for 4 mo. now. Does anyone know what may cause this? I have hypothyroidism, HP, High Cholesterol, depression and anxiety that I have been taken meds for..for years now. I have noticed changes in my eyesight. I have suffered severe fatigue for at least 8 yrs now. I just wonder if someone can tell me if all these disorders may be related somehow? I have spoke with my drs. and they tend to blaim everything on my hypothyroidism and depression. I am tired of suffering....and now with the eyesight and missed periods...I just don't know. Any input would be deeply appreciated!

I am 19 and I take Loestrin as well, but for my Endomiotrosis, and I have not had a period in 2years and I know I too have been ovulating. I have been told that the pill Loestrin its self is a period stopper. Now for the other disorders I am not sure if they would cause it as well, but they may have some impact but not that much, for my doctors blaim everything on the pill.

ovulating without bleeding got me pregnant on the pill
I got pregnant without having a period for 2 years my daughter is now almost three and I stil haven't had one, I was on cerazette because microginon made me mental. I was 5 months gone before I knew and it made it almost impossible to determine exactly how far along I was until ultrasound measurements as I had no bump either. Even the nurse was astounded at how far along I was. I am pretty sure i was still ovuulating while taking the pill but didn't know due to the lack of bleeding.

Can it be possible that the bleeding is very minimal or even non existent when the egg detatches during menstration for some women?

My partner and I will certainly have to hope this is the case if we want to have any more children but for now I will count my accidental blessing as she may have been a fluke?!

No period but ovulating!!
I haven't had a period for two and a half years now as i've had the implanon implant in my arm but i had it taken out two weeks ago today as my husband and i want to try for a baby. I still haven't had a period but reading on these message boards gave me hope that i could still get pregnant regardless of the lack of period. I bought some ovulation tests and although there was no second line, over the last two days i've started to feel like i'm going to give birth to a lemon every time i do a wee or cough/laugh! My uterus has been feeling really heavy and it actually hurt during sex yesterday (sorry for too much info!) so i know my cervix is lower, softer maybe? I took an ovulation kit today and there's two dark lines so i must be ready to ovulate!! So excited as having no periods for so long makes you feel completely infertile so i'm really pleased that something is going on down there!!
Watch this space now....... Smile x

Excited to read this since this is the reason I am reading all of these posts! Had the implanon taken out probably 3 weeks ago and hate that I haven't started but secretly hoped I was ovulating anyway! Thanks for this post!

What happened to me!
I didnt have my period for like two months. I took a pregnancy test some point at the end of january. and shortly after my boyfriend and I started dating I took another pregnancy test. Both of those test said I was negative. On February 24th I found out that im pregnant. So yes its possible to not have a period and get pregnant. My boyfriend and I started dating Feb. 4th. We are blessed to be having a baby!
