Anybody With Anorexic Kids?

User Profile
My best friend has this girl, she is about 9 and she refuses to eat. She tells me they have tried everything to make her eat without success. She has bringed her to many doctors and they don't seem to be concerned. But the girl continues to not eat and looking skinnier. Have anyone got this problem? This girl is so young that we sure know she is not wanting to eat because she wants to be skinnier, she is just plain anorexic. Is there any trick that has worked to any to make their kid eat?

Maybe it is a medical problem of some sort.. I know my exboyfriends sister had some medical problem (unsure what exactly it was) but she would simply 'forget' to eat because she never felt hungry and she got mad when her parents made her eat because she was not hungry. They had to have her on medicine to help with this but she was still skinny as a rail..

Then on another note maybe it is anorexia to be skinny.. Media is effecting children younger and younger each day! A lady at my work has a 10 year old who started going on this health kick because she wanted to be skinnier like her friend. They do know whats going on, its sad that they are so young but kids that age battle this all the time.

Make sure your friend keeps an eye on the problem and does all she can to help her daughter. This is not the kind of thing to be ignored!

Yeah well my friend is very concerned. She says when goes and in her attempt to feed her she gags like she is going to vomit and so my friends tells me she gets scared with that and has to stop the feeding..

I had this with my daughter to the point that when we did get her to eat she would just vomit. It was really difficult it all started when she had Rota Virus when she was a baby, she had started on solid foods and we had to stop them and put her back on milk, watered down.
She was so underweight and wasn't a big baby to begin with 5Ib at birth and she was born on her due date so not premature or anything. When I look back at photos I wonder how her head stayed on her neck it was that thin.
Anyway after making all the usual fuss to get her to eat, ignoring meal times, passing her around relatives when it was meal times so that we were not seen as bad parents in my daughters eyes.
She started school, took her lunch in a bag as the other children did only she brought hers home again untouched. She made some friends and was invited for tea and she would eat something, not much but something, her friends parents were aware of her food phobia, so never pushed it, she saw her friend eat so she joined in. Then she came home and would eat something from our plates not much we ignored it, then she became involved in making the tea through her own choice and started to insist that things were put on a plate for her and she would eat. She had days still where she would not eat and we never pushed it, believing that she would do it when she wanted to.
We gave her multi vitamins daily. She saw loads of doctors who didn't know how to help, she was never given a label or a diagnosis as to why she couldn't, wouldn't eat. She was prescribed ensure to make sure that she was getting some nutrition. I believe that it started from the rota virus.
She is now 14 years old of fantastic height and weight, she still goes through spells of not eating but makes up for it on the days that she does eat.
I know that this is not going to help but I wanted to share with you how we dealt with our daughters problem.
Good luck.

This is so sad!

Is your friend completely sure that it's not because of her body image? Kids can be very mean, and maybe she's getting teased?

Will she eat soup? Anything? If not, is she on vitamins?

If she's not eating at all, i would consider this very serious. She's lacking nutriention, and needs to be seen ASAP.

Tell your freind to bring her to the hospital. At least there, they can put her on IV.
