Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
Missing periods could have a number of reasons. Being pregnant is one of the most common causes. Look out for other symptoms suggesting pregnancy like nausea, mood changes, back pain, lower abdominal cramps, breast soreness and nipple sensitivity, increased frequency of urine, increased tiredness, sleep and hunger. If you suspect pregnancy, then get a complete evaluation done by a gynecologist along with tests to confirm/rule out pregnancy.
Take care.

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

Usually the first symptom is missed period. It can also be spotting or an unusually light period. This is followed by morning nausea, sore and tender breast, weight gain, mood swings, fatigue, frequent urination, feeling very hungry, food craving, and sensitivities to smells. If your wife has these symptoms, or a combination of them with missed or very light periods, then take a pregnancy test and see preferably a highly sensitive urine test or a blood pregnancy test.

If it is negative, repeat after a week if your wife has not got her periods. If it is still negative then other causes of delayed or missed periods will have to be looked at such as stress whether emotional or physical, hypothyroidism, polycystic disease of the ovary, pituitary tumors secreting prolactin, anemia and poor diet, unexplained or sudden weight gain or weight loss.

Hope this helps. Take care!
