Since 2008 I have had severe pain in my jaw. I would have shooting pains up and down the side of my face. When I would open my mouth it would pop and then lock open until I forced it to close. I wore 10 different splints trying to fix the alignment of my jaw and keep me from grinding my teeth, I had a wisdom tooth removed that was still a bud but had a cyst around it, and 16 shots of botox in the muscles of my jaw to paralyze them. I probably had 3 MRI'S, a CAT scan, and tons of XRAY's. They couldn't figure out what was wrong with me for about 2 years. I was finally diagnosed with TMJ and chronic migraines in 2009, I was in 8th grade. I had jaw surgery in December of 2009 to bolt and anchor the disc back into place that temporarily made me feel better. I missed 48 days of school my 8th grade year. My jaw would hurt occasionally after I recovered from the surgery but not nearly as bad as before. Before I couldn't eat or sleep, I could only eat something that didn't require chewing. I got braces to fix my bite after the surgery and it did fix my bite but none of my back teeth touch. Now I am a junior in High School, it's starting to hurt me like before surgery. I've seen chiropractors, physical therapists, dentist, an orthodontist, surgeons, and specialists. It is getting back to where i can't sleep or eat anything. I have pain all day long. I'm having a joint block done in March to try and determine if the pain is being caused by the joint in my jaw or something else. No medication curbs the pain I have in my jaw and I can't take migraine medicine because I am allergic to it. Almost every pain medication makes me sick or doesnt effect me at all, muscle relaxers don't work, and I just hope that one day I will get relief. I pray that the doctors will be able to determine the cause and how to fix it or relieve my pain.

this may seem a silly question but did the chiropractor adjust your jaw?

also, do you grind your teeth in your sleep?

Another thing to try is Acupuncture, I was skepical at first by my chiropractor used a combination of chiropractic techniques, massage and acupuncture, really worked for me and I was in agony for 2 years and couldn't sleep either.

Might also be a nasal, sinus problem? get the to scan your sinuses.

Could be an allergy, have you tried taking antihistamines for a month?

Hope this helps,

Anna
