Depression Answer A9201

Both Tianeptine and Paroxetine are found to be equally effective for major depressive disorder. This has been proved by randomized placebo controlled trials. Nausea is known to be associated with Tianeptine, but it is much less than the SSRIs.

Paroxetine is a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor. Its mechanism of action is exactly opposite to that of Tianeptine. But the long term effect of both these drugs is the same. There is a list of side effects of Paroxetine, but some of the common ones are nausea, somnolence and ejaculatory disturbance.
