Thrush - as soon as I have intercourse it hurts & is back

User Profile
I have had thrush for about 3 weeks now & it's driving me insane. It's not so much uncomfortable or itchy, infact it seems settled, but as soon as I have intercourse it hurts & is immediately back. I go to pass urine immediately after & it's like passing razor blades. This all started out from a UTI I had just after Xmas & I needed 2 lots of trimethoprim. Usually 1 course is enough. The Dr predicted this would happen. So I am on iron supplements because I have Coeliacs disease, but I also take Hiprex, Cranberry tablets, Krill oil & I have a yakult everyday. Since the UTI, I have also started taking ural sachets, inner health plus & ofcourse using canisten cream, however, I'm on my third tube. I have also been having sits baths with Bi-carb soda once a day. Also I had endometriosis & had an endometrial ablation done mid Nov last year, so now I don't have periods. Getting to my Dr is difficult as it's a 4 hr drive. What else can I do?

Welcome to ehealthforum,
The symptoms that you describe suggest possibility of UTI and dryness of vulval area. Avoid self-treatment, and visit your doctor/gynecologist for thorough examination along with getting vaginal swab/smear test done to confirm/rule out infective causes. Further treatment options would be suggested based on examination findings and evaluation results. Avoid vaginal douching, use of harsh soap or perfumes in the area. Use loose cotton undergarments and avoid use of tight fitting clothes. Avoid sweat accumulation in the area. If infective cause is detected, and if you are sexually active, get your partner also treated simultaneously to prevent chances of re-infection, and avoid having intercourse while being on treatment. Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately.
Take care.
