My psychiatrist asked me if I feel as though thoughts are being inserted into my mind. I said no, but I'm not sure.

I feel as though some thoughts that pop up in my mind are definitely not mine, and that they are being put there by someone else but I can't identify who.

Is it still regarded as thought insertion if you don't know who is doing the inserting?

Thank you for your question on

Hearing voices, seeing things or people are symptoms of major psychiatric disorders like psychoses. Your medication history suggests that you are on treatment for a psychotic disorder. Normally, thoughts occurring are perceived as our thoughts and not as inserted thoughts. Your condition needs supervision and treatment by a psychiatrist and requires regular monitoring. Thank you.
