Hi, for the last 6-8 months I have been waking up in the morning with a lot of irritating mucus in my throat, I have to hack it up and too my big surprise it's brownish yellow sometimes green .... Shock! it's only in the morning! The rest of the day I also have a lot of throat mucus but it's clearish white. That has been going on for probably 6-8 months.. I have No health insurance and Im freaking out!! I'm thinking what the hells is going on?? I'm so worried this could be a much more important sign of my health, that it might be something serious... I don't see how brown mucus is normal so there is obviously something wrong?? Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Thank you for asking at Ehealth forum!

I read your question and i understand your concern. This phlegm in the morning only is likely Benign. Acid Reflux, allergies, sore throat, respiratory tract infections and local oral pathologies are likely cause of it. Nothing serious is behind it. You just need supportive care, warm salt water gargles, good oral hygiene and supportive care.

I hope it helps. Stay in touch with your healthcare provider for further guidance as our answers are just for education and counselling purposes and cannot be an alternative to actual visit to a doctor.
