these signs hormonal or prolactin related?

User Profile
Early in February around the time I was due to menstruate I had brown, orderless spotting. This occurred for 3-4 days and stopped. My normal cycle never arrived. Approximately 1 week later, I had a vivid dream of drinking all of the milk in my home and woke up to a feeling of 'let down' from my breasts. Curiosity had me squeeze my nipples and there was clear and milky substance, to a point that it did squirt. My breast are firmer and fuller as I am small breasted and this is easy to see with no unusual lumps. Since then I have been constipated, gassy, bloated, cramping, small amounts of white, odorless vaginal discharge and sweating more then normal. Home pregnancy tests have come back negative and it is important to note I have had a tubal ligation with clamps 14 years ago. Are all of these signs hormonal or prolactin related?

Hi,
Welcome to the forum. I am really glad to help you out. You are suffering from Galactorrhea, or inappropriate lactation. This can occur in approximately 20 to 25 percent of women.

Lactation requires the presence of estrogen, progesterone and, most importantly, prolactin. The important causes of galactorrhea which need to be looked into are pituitary adenomas, hypothyroidism, various medications like antidepressants, blood pressure medicines and certain tranquilizers & breast stimulation.

Important diagnostic tests include a pregnancy test, a prolactin level, kidney and thyroid function tests and, if indicated, magnetic resonance imaging of the brain to rule out prolactinoma of the pituitary gland. Hypothyroidism & Pituitary Prolactinomas can also cause a disturbance in the periods. I’ll suggest consulting an endocrinologist for the same as it is not possible to make an online diagnosis. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.
