Test came back..., I need to be tested again

Hi all,
I took a blood test last week to test for HIV. I got a call today to say that the test is negative but I have low level reactivity. I need to be tested again in 3-6 weeks. I have never been so scared in all my life. Has anyone had this come back from a test before?

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

HIV is diagnosed based on the detection of HIV antigens and antibodies in the blood samples, and not based on the signs and symptoms that you may be having.

HIV DUO test, which is also called as a 4th generation HIV test. It is 100% sensitive for both HIV-1/2 antibody and p24 antigen detection. Its specificity is 99.77% in individuals at low risk for HIV infection. Hence it is a very accurate test for HIV screening.

A person after exposure to HIV can get ‎tested as early as 4 weeks to 12 weeks with the ELISA for ‎HIV antibody test. ‎‎‎90% of normal individuals who have HIV ‎exposure, will seroconvert (which means - having a positive HIV test result) within 4-6 weeks. ‎

The ‎sensitivity of the ELISA ‎test is 99.9%. ‎
