taking care of a rib fracture?

User Profile
a week and a half ago my wife fell backwards and landed against an end table. we both heard a breaking sound and it ended up being a rib bone, just under her left breast. I have tried many times to get her to go to a doctor but she is still reluctant. we began with wrapping her ribs up with ace bandage, but after reading webmd we stopped that. she feels that she cannot go a day without doing her usual house chores. As for getting extra she gets some but not really enough, as for ice packs very little and as for OTCs she has been taking TYLENOL and ALEVE. other than forcing her to go see a doctor are there any other helpful hints for her to practice at home to help her through this for the next few months. We do believe that there are no neck or back injuries nor any lung damage aside from coughing. she takes deep breaths every hour. as for the ice on her ribs, how long does she do this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Good pain relief during this time helps you to breathe and cough properly.
Discuss with your doctor or nurse before taking any pain relief medicine.
Take care and get well soon.
