Suffering ridiculous fatigue after only minimal sleep loss

I hope someone can help! I normally get by quite happily on 8 or 8.5 hours sleep. Recently I went to bed later than usual (having been out at a meeting) - only by about 45 minutes so wasn't far short of my usual amount (having gone to sleep immediately). Yet for much of the next day I was totally shattered. To the best of my knowledge I had slept fine throughout the night without waking up. I simply cannot understand why I should have been quite so exhausted given that the deficit was so minimal! Any explanation or advice on how to deal with this would be much appreciated.

Hard to say, could be many things, including the flu coming on or even something you ate.

If this was a one-time thing and doesn't recur, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks for taking the trouble to reply - I'm not too bothered as it is normally quite so bad but am just baffled as much as anything!
