Welcome to e health forum.

Overdose of Lantus insulin, can result in low blood sugar levels (hypoglycemia).

Such low glucose levels can produce symptoms like - Extreme hunger, Dizziness, Shakiness, sweating, cold sweats, blurry vision. In extreme toxicity - more severe symptoms - like - changed behavior (irritability) ,Loss of coordination, speech problems, confusion, seizures, loss of consciousness, coma and death can also occur.

Hence In such situations immediate measures to increase the blood sugar levels need to be taken, including oral glucose ( in conscious patients ) and / or IV Dextrose injections (if possible) should be given.

Hypotension is the medical term for low blood pressure (less than 90/60). Such conditions are a medical emergency and there are no home treatment measures to increase the Blood pressure. In such situations, immediate medical assistance should be sought so that underlying cause can be identified and therapeutic medications and IV fluids can be started to improve the blood pressure.

In the mean time, patients should be placed immediately in the supine position with elevation of both lower limbs so that blood flow to the brain increases. The eyes should be kept open to prevent fainting. Gentle massage of the foot, calf, thigh can be done to promote blood flow toward the head.

Some measures to prevent recurrence of such episodes in patients with low blood pressure include -
1. Drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day. Occasional cup of coffee to stimulate or increase the heart rate, thereby increasing blood pressure.
Regular light exercise such as walking for 30 minutes, at least 3 times a week can help reduce the onset of symptoms.
It is advisable to wear elastic stockings, especially for women. This stocking order to expedite the flow of blood back to the heart, especially on the lower leg. Thus, the blood being pumped around the body in short supply, and blood pressure within normal limits.
