started my period but it's so light ....

User Profile
I'm 17 and have been on birth control since September 2011. Recently in January I had sex with my boyfriend with a condom and I think it may have broken but I figured since I'm on the pill I was protected and forgot about it. Then when my next period was expected I got it a day earlier and it was unusually light and my periods have always been regular. This past month I've been having various symptoms like sensitivity to smell( I haven't even been able to wear my own perfume), increased appetite, Moody, increase in vaginal discharge, and a sensitive stomach but figured I was being paranoid, just in case I took a test and it was negative. Today I just started my period but it's so light Ive only had one drop of blood on each tampon when I used them. What do you think, should I go to the doctor and could I be pregnant? I'm scared.

Am I Pregnant Answer A32780
Welcome to ehealthforum,
The symptoms (earlier & lighter periods, sensitivity to smell, increased appetite, mood changes, increased vaginal discharge, sensitive stomach, spotting, etc) that you describe could suggest possibility of pregnancy. Look out for development of any other new symptoms if pregnancy is suspected. If your usual periods do not start within 10 days of expected period dates, or if you get abnormal periods, or if you suspect chances of pregnancy, consider visiting your doctor/gynecologist at the earliest for thorough examination (to confirm pregnancy related changes/signs in body) and blood/serum HCG level test (to confirm/rule out pregnancy accurately). Be in regular monitoring and follow-up with your treating doctor/gynecologist and report any new/abnormal symptoms immediately. Take adequate rest. Drink plenty of water. Maintain healthy diet. If pregnancy is suspected, or if pregnancy gets confirmed, stop the hormonal birth control use.
Take care.
