Early Pregnancy Signs and Symptoms Answer A8597
Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

The two most common causes of intermenstrual spotting to be ruled out in your case are pregnancy and birth control pills. So, first take a pregnancy test and see. If you are on pills then that is most likely the cause for the abnormal behavior of periods.

Other causes are hypothyroidism, cervical dysplasia, cervical polyps, cervicitis (infection/inflammation of cervix), vaginitis (infection/inflammation of vagina), cervical and uterine cancer, uterine fibroids, hormonal imbalance as in polycystic disease of the ovary, use of blood thinners, genital ulcers, STDs and stress.

Since a confirmed diagnosis cannot be given on the internet please discuss these possibilities with your gynecologist. Hope this helps. Take care!
