Sore, semi-swollen, veiny breasts

Me and my partner had unprotected sex on the first day of my period Oct 4, my period lasted 3 days. About a week after that my breasts were immediately tender and sore. A week after that I started to get extremely exhausted during certain times of the day, mild back pains, and hungry for sweets which I am not usually hungry for. Another week later while my still having all of those symptoms... today I noticed my veins in my breasts are extremely darker than normal, all over the breast area but especially leading up to my nipple area on one breast, and on the other there is a very dark ring around that nipple/areola. I have had two children before and remember the veiny and painful breasts with both pregnancies, but I thought I could not get pregnant on my period. I tested today and it is negative, my period is not due until Oct 30. What say you? PS... me and my partner are hopeful there is a baby.

Hi,
Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am glad to help you out.

Since you had unprotected intercourse during your periods, chances of pregnancy are less.

The various causes of breast soreness are premenstrual syndrome, hormone therapy, pregnancy (less likely in your case) and breast feeding, fibrocystic disease, use of oral contraceptives and rarely a breast malignancy. Please consult a gynecologist and discuss these possibilities.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.

Turned out I was not pregnant, the breast swelling did diminish after my period, however the very dark and visible veins are still there and are also more noticeable in other places on my body like my lower abdomen, front of legs, hands and arms. I will see a gynecologist and try to figure out what's going on with my vein issue. Thank you!
