slipped and fell heavily resulting in compression fractures

Hi, one week ago I slipped and fell heavily resulting in compression fractures of my lumbar vertebrae 1 and 2. The A&E doc was quite unhelpful and told me to go home, rest and come back to the fracture clinic but couldn't get an appointment there until later this week. My friend who were in neuro care in a specialist hospital was horrified that they didn't place me in a brace there and then. She was also surprised that no other info was given. My GP was better and gave me strong painkillers. She has signed me off work for 3 weeks but initially wanted to sign me off for 6 weeks. I'm concerned about work however and having too much time off. I have a sedentary job so no heavy lifting etc. I'm not allowed to drive yet either. My main question is how long do people generally have off work with this type of injury? The pain has not got any better at all this week and it is constant, whether sitting, lying or standing although alternating these positions does give relief from the worst pain. Thanks

The minimum period of rehabilitation in such cases of compression fractures is 4 weeks. Though it can be greater especially if multiple levels are affected.
