she already has genital herpes, i have a cold sore

User Profile
I recently noticed I have a cold sore on the inside of my mouth, near my back molar. Ive had it about a week, but didn't think it was a cold sore because Ive only ever had them one spot on my bottom lip. The last two days I have been french kissing my girlfriend without knowing it was a cold sore, and performing oral sex on her multiple times.
She has already told me she has genital herpes and takes valacyclovir everyday, but I am concerned I am going to cause more problems because of the oral sex I have been performing on her. What are the chances that I have made things even worse for her by performing oral sex while I have a cold sore, if she already has genital herpes and takes daily medication?? Any reply would be appreciated, as I am very concerned. Thanks for your time!

Thank you for asking at Ehealth forum!

I read your question and i understand your concern. With cold sores, and herpes in partner and exchange of fluids, i am afraid this might be herpes. You will need antivirals though. It self resolves in 10 days after completing 5 stages of its illness. Talk to an infectious disease specialist and let them sort it out for you.

I hope it helps. Stay in touch with your healthcare provider for further guidance as our answers are just for education and counselling purposes and cannot be an alternative to actual visit to a doctor.
