Saphris for depression ?

User Profile
I have a problem with meds they dont treat me well.
I don't know if my Dr. put me on Saphris because he is just grasping for something to work or if he really thinks this med. is for depression also. I am scared of it because I don't hear voices or get manic or any of those things and I am taking a medicine for that kind of illness what is your true thought.

Hello.

Saphris (Asenapine) is an antipsychotic. It means the medicine is meant specifically for psychotic conditions. It does not have a role in non-psychotic bipolar disorder or depression. Until recently the drug was in phase III trial for Schizophrenia, which is a psychotic disorder.

You need a good trial of anti-depressant and anti-anxiety medicines. I suggest you share your concerns with your doctor.

Regards
