safe bipolar drug to take while pregnant?

Im bipolar and im taking lithum bi cobonate 300mg three capsuls a day at night to treat it. Ive been on it for six years and now me and my husband want to try for our second child. I want to know what is a safe drug to take while pregnant and to treat bipolar. Can u advise me on something safer for i dont wanna take litum for i know there are too many risk factors with it.

I can understand your concern. Lithium and first-generation antipsychotics such as Haldol and Thorazine are preferred in pregnancy because they cause minimal risks to the fetus. If you are planning a pregnancy then taking only one mood stabilizing medication is less harmful than exposure to multiple medications. If you are planning a pregnancy, talk to your psychiatrist and gynecologist first. Hope this helps. Take care!
