I had surgery three years ago to repair an inguinal hernia on my left side (with mesh). I recently experienced a lot of pain in that same area after participating in a bowling fundraiser. I went back to the same surgeon, but after examining me, he said he could not detect another hernia, so he will not operate. He chalked it up to "a bad muscle strain." It's been three months now, and I still have pain when walking, bending, etc. He did order a CT Scan, but said he didn't see anything on it. Someone suggested that if I go back, I should ask for an MRI to see what's going on in there. Kind of at a loss on what to do--it's obviously not going to heal on its own. Anyone out there with a similar condition? Any advice would be appreciated...

I too had a hernia repair with mesh a little over a year ago. Been in chronic pain ever since. Urologist didn't see anything on the ultrasound, emergency room didn't see anything on the MRI. Tried to go back to he surgeon but at that time I was without insurance and they said I had to pay almost 200.00 up front before he would even let me in for an appointment. Urologist said this happens to about 10% of people with this type of operation and left it at that - seems like no one will do anything. Trying to get with a pain management specialist now. I'm all out of options at this point. Not sure what to do either. Tired of the pain!

Sorry to hear about that. Some of these doctors don't seem to know as much as they claim to. It's amazing how they just write off a patient with no explanation or treatment. Of course, they still take payment for their non-service! I hope and pray that things will get better for you. DRH

hernia Pain repair with Mesh
Had a hernia repair with mesh 2 1/2 years ago been in all kinds of pain ever since, very hard to get help from your original doctor or others( THEY DONT CARE! ABOUT THE 20% or more ), There is help out there. Check on line for hernia mesh removal, For me there was help in LasVegas. I had my mesh removed 5 days ago, on my way to recovery . I feel better 5 days after surgery then 2 1/2 years after the original repair. Mesh may help 4 out of 5 patients but it didn't help me weather it was the mesh or a improper repair? I pray and hope for all the people still with this pain to keep looking for help, there are some doctors out there that care about patients then $$$$ God bless you all

THX. This is encouraging. If I go back to this surgeon, I may ask him to just refer me to another surgeon who specializes in hernia repairs.
