I've just found out I'm pregnant we're really happy. But I have been reducing my methadone by 5 ml every 2 weeks, I'm only about 5 weeks so all together I've reduced 10 ml, I've been reading through the forums and noticed Alot that your not ment to come off methadone OR REDUCE while pregnant because you'll miscarry. I'm really scared now because of the reduction.
What shall I do please help, regards ZoeGreen123.

First Trimester of Pregnancy Answer A23216
Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

Well, yes the reduction can cause miscarriage, but it may not also. Generally reduction is attempted in second trimester. Until then a lower maintenance dose is given to prevent withdrawal. Taking methadone also can cause small baby, miscarriage etc. Hence please be under a trained specialist dealing with drug abuse in pregnancy. Hope this helps. Take care!
