Recovery time from ankle fracture surgery?

I had an unexpected dismount off my horse a week ago resulting in landing on my left foot with subsequent ankle fracture. I was diagnosed in the ER with an oblique mildly displaced fracture of the lateral malleolus and a mildly displaced fracture of the posterior malleolus. Due to the fibular fracture and it’s placement... my OS believes sx is the best option for me to return to riding. I will be having sx in three days. What do you think my total recovery time will be in order to return to the sport without limitations?

Thank you for asking at Ehealth forum!

I read your question and I understand your concern.
It takes 9-12 weeks to recover and return to sport. But there are individual variabilities.
I hope it helps. Stay in touch with your healthcare provider for further guidance as our answers are just for education and counselling purposes and cannot be an alternative to actual visit to a doctor.
