10 reasons why abortion is wrong

1. Abortion Offends God

Abortion is never a mere personal choice but a grave offense against God and His creation. The anti-abortion struggle has always been a religious battle and foremost in its ranks have been Catholics across the country. This is because Church teaching on abortion is clear and unequivocal: Abortion is murder. There are no exceptions allowed, no compromises possible.

2. The Unnoticed War

The continuing war on terror has lead to a renewed national consciousness of the high price of war, and, for many, a heightened desire for peace. Yet, despite all this concern, the most horrible war of all has gone all but unnoticed. This is a war going on within our own borders, and it has claimed 42 million American lives in the last 35 years.

This scourge is as horrible as anything terrorists can fathom, because it strikes at the very core of humanity and our country: the family. By destroying the most basic human bond of all—that between mother and child—abortion dissolves the precious glue that binds our nation together.

While mother and child are the first victims, there is not a single element of society that is not affected by abortion. Mother, child, father, husband, aunt, uncle, friend, sibling and grandparent alike suffer the scars of the abortionist’s scalpel. Peace abroad is meaningless without peace at home.

3. Life starts at the moment of conception

This is the definition given in any respectable medical textbook. To declare a beginning of life at any point after the fusing of a wife’s egg and a husband’s contribution is irrational and an exercise in sophistical chicanery. Only machines such as clocks and cars come into existence part by part. Living beings come into existence all at once and gradually unfold their world of innate potential. A living human begins to exist at the moment of conception, even though only as a cell. What is important is not the accident of size or weight but the essence - which is fully human. The unborn baby has a distinct, unchanging and unrepeatable genetic code, unique in all of history, from the moment of conception till death. Nothing is added except nutrition and oxygen.1

4. Mankind must protect life whenever possible

The first and foremost instinct of humans is preservation of life. This begins with self-preservation, and extends to all humanity through domestic bonds and realization of a like nature. "Pregnancy termination" stops the beating heart of a growing human being and is in direct contradiction to this most basic premise of human nature. It forsakes natural law, and has left America as a country unable to repopulate itself without the aid of mass immigration.

5. Abortion is an unsafe procedure

Compared with other medical procedures, the abortion industry is largely unregulated. Although there are no exact statistics for the number of women who die from botched procedures, LifeDynamics.com compiled a list of 347 women killed by legal abortions since 1973.2 Furthermore, the National Cancer Institute commissioned a study lead by Dr. Janet Daling, an abortion supporter, and her colleagues at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center which found a link between abortion and cancer: "among women who had been pregnant at least once, the risk of breast cancer in those who had experienced an induced abortion was 50% higher than among other women."

The Coalition on Abortion/Breast Cancer reports: "28 out of 37 worldwide studies have independently linked induced abortion with breast cancer. Thirteen out of fifteen studies conducted on American women report increased risk. Seventeen studies are statistically significant, sixteen of which found increased risk. Most of the studies have been conducted by abortion supporters." 3

6. Embryonic stem-cell and human cloning research: a biogenetic Tower of Babel

In a cynical but logical progression, the culture of death is now bent on engendering human life so as to destroy it. Its new frontier is embryonic stem-cell and human cloning research. In the name of science and health, human life is destroyed at its very inception and "limited" cloning is used to produce usable cells that can be manipulated and harvested to aid the living. In short, the remaining ethical barriers that preserve human dignity and God's rights in Creation are steadily coming down. The biotech revolution has as its avowed goal not just curing disease but the construction of a "brave new world" of genetic engineering, changing the very makeup and design of man himself. We cannot permit the completion of this challenge to God, a new Tower of Babel, which will be like another Pandora's box, unleashing untold ethical and moral havoc on our nation.

7. Breaking the abortion cycle

Abortion is a sin that perpetuates evil. The abortion mentality destroys the family by making it more difficult for new Americans who survive beyond the womb to find the family welded together by the indissoluble bond of marriage solely between a man and a woman. Children need families that will nurture them, guard their innocence and develop their personalities. In particular, all children must find within their homes the Faith that enables them to know, love and serve God in this world and be happy with Him forever in the next. As long as the traditional family remains in crisis, we will never sever the power lines that supply the abortion mills. As long as the Faith remains dead in souls, we will never wipe out the moral rot of sexual immorality, which is the contaminated soil where the abortion movement grows and flourishes.

8. Roe v. Wade: 37 Years of Lies

The 37th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s infamous Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion-on-demand calls to mind the biggest pack of lies ever set in motion - lies that have cost the lives of more than 42 million innocent babies cruelly torn from their mothers' wombs. How can such slaughter, numerically on par with Hitler's Germany or Stalin’s Russia, be tolerated by the present United States of America, a republic purportedly based on moral values and human rights?

9. Addressing an abortionist

Once you were an enchanting child, as all babies are. Today you are an abortionist, a killer of babies. Do you not regret your wicked deeds? Do you not see the innocent blood of our children that stains your hands and cries out to God? Have you no shame as did our first parents when they sinned against God? Why do you not turn to Him today, seek His forgiveness and His strength never again to murder the innocent? Would you not rather bring children into the world than destroy them? Children you could raise with respect for life to take the place of those you robbed from God?

10. The dangerous slippery slope

Yesterday it was contraception. Today it's abortion, the murder of unborn children, and same-sex "marriage." Will it be widespread euthanasia tomorrow? Then what...? Once abortion is universally accepted, what logical arguments will stop euthanasia and other forms of murder and brutality?

#1 It is not the place of any religion to define murder. Abortion is not murder, never has been and never will be.
Not all Christians are pro-life, you don't speak for every Christian or for God. If you believe this to be the truth then that is your choice - if others believe in God and abortion then that is their own relationship with God - not yours to interfere in.

#2 Abortion does not destroy the bond between mother and child. I've got a super bond with my child, one which would have been strained had I not aborted. Many women don't bond in pregnancy - that's fine because it is a different relationship to mother and child (yes, pregnant woman/embryo is not the same bond as mother/child, even though I am sure you believe it to be true Rolling Eyes ) And scalpel? really? lol

#3 Well, if it just needs nutrients and oxygen, remove it from my body at 6 weeks and it will be just fine. Oh wait, it needs my body so it wont. Is it not a life if the people engaging in intercourse aren't married? You specifically mentioned husband and wife - people do have sex outside of marriage now, are they exempt?

#4 places do not need to increase their population. The world is overcrowded as it is. it's simply not responsible for humanity to be advising that we all make lots of children. The world doesn't have endless resources, but who cares about the future generations eh? As long as there are simply loads of people they'll be fine. Rolling Eyes

#5 Abortion is safer than childbirth.
Abortion does not lead to an increase in risk of breast cancer (rather carrying a pregnancy and breastfeeding reduces the risk, different thing entirely) Updated a couple of years ago, don't have the time or inclination to look for any more (given you didn't even provide a link)http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/ca uses/ere/workshop-report

#6 I'm not interested in debating stem-cell research

#7 Abortion is neither a sin nor evil. It does not hurt families.

Finally, abortion has been legal for some time now. Is murder suddenly legal? No. If you're so closed minded to think people shouldn't be able to marry, regardless of gender, or women should be forced to continue every pregnancy then great. Don't marry a woman or have an abortion, simple Very Happy

Well said, Moo - thanks for saving me a lot of typing lol.

I would like to add to #1 that there is nowhere in the Christian Bible prohibiting a woman from terminating her own pregnancy.

And to the OP, you need to cite the source you copied and pasted this from, otherwise it's plagiarism.

1. Abortion Offends God

God does not exist, hence any offence caused is equally imaginary. Belief in "god" is completely irrelevant, and if you choose to practise delusions like that, please come and feed the fairies who live at the bottom of my garden while I am on holiday. Thanks.

2. The Unnoticed War
You mean the war on women and the misogynistic attempts to keep us from controlling our own bodies and our own lives? Oh yeah, that one.

3. Life starts at the moment of conception

Excellent, let the nasty little fetus pay rent, or get the heck out of the uterus. An icky little blob invading an unwelcome host is a parastite. Note: parasite are alive. Note: I eat fertilised eggs all the time -- they don't taste like chicken.

4. Mankind must protect life whenever possible
There is not shortage of humans on the planet. Stopping the unwanted ones from being born is a positive thing. Focus on living people and get your grubby little face out of every other woman's vagina.

5. Abortion is an unsafe procedure

Pregnancy and childbirth are among the most dangerous and least healthy things that can happen to a woman. Far more women suffer serious and permanent health problems due to pregnancy, and many many more die in childbirth, than ever due to abortion. Abortion is, statistically, much less dangerous than staying pregnant. Answer: outlaw pregnancy and childbirth!

6. Embryonic stem-cell and human cloning research: a biogenetic Tower of Babel

Don't know where you copied and pasted this one from, but it's complete nonsense. See (1) about the relevance of your imaginary sky-friend to anything that normal, thinking people care about.

7. Breaking the abortion cycle
Ignoring the religious nonsense, you are basically contradicting yourself. Children need families that love and want them, not ones that don't want them and can't afford to feed them.

8. Roe v. Wade: 37 Years of Lies
Uh, okay, now you're just rambling. Whatever that says, it is not a "reason", it's just some kind of "waaaah! Babies! I wuv babies!" without caring that the women who have had abortions did not want to be pregnant or have those babies.

9. Addressing an abortionist

Okay, the religious inanity again. Just FYI, though -- all the women I know who have had abortions are very grateful to the doctors who performed tham, and regard abortionists as an important contibutor to the quality of life they were able to maintain.

10. The dangerous slippery slope
I'm guessing that you think contraception is also a bad thing? That just goes to show that you are an extremist with no understanding of the world, respect for women, or comprehension of what life is about. The internet must be a scary place for you.

It isn't the 'truth'. It may be your truth, that doesn't mean it is definitive.

Do you understand the point of debate? Why should I not read something if I don't agree with it or challenge the opinions of it if I can? If you didn't want a debate on this then it should have been posted in the pro-life forum.

I guess that's the way the egotistical crusaders do things -- never expose yourself to a contrary opinion, because you couldn't face the possibility of having to question your beliefs. If you only surround yourself with people who have the same narrow-minded, hateful views as yourself, you will never need to think. Good for you! How lucky to live in a world that is so black and white, even if it bears to relationship to reality. Reality is a scary place for the fanatic.

Oh and you do not sound fanatical at all....
Abortion is murder because it is taking a human life! And it has nothing to do with God or religion it is simply morally wrong! If you kill someone that is wrong and evil unless it is in self defense. Killing an innocent baby who did not even ask to be brought in this world is WRONG! Where is the choice of the child?! Science every day is proving that the life inside a womb is uniquely HUMAN! Did you know that babies can learn to distinguish LANGUAGES ten weeks before they are born (not to mention the fact that babies recognize their mother's voice).
Abortion is PAINFUL for a baby that can feel! Not even animals are killed (I am talking about putting an animal down) in such painful ways as the ways in which some babies are killed! Burned to death in a saline solution, ripped apart piece by piece, skull pierced and brains scrambled and vacuumed!
And for the person who said that the bible does not condemn abortion (murdering babies (infanticide)) here you go:
"You knit me in my mother’s womb . . . nor was my frame unknown to you when I was made in secret" (Psalm 139:13,15). God also helps and calls the preborn child. "You have been my guide since I was first formed . . . from my mother’s womb you are my God" (Psalm 22:10-11). "God… from my mother’s womb had set me apart and called me through his grace" (St. Paul to the Galatians 1:15).
And here is more condemnation of killing the innocent:"They mutilated their sons and daughters by fire…till the Lord, in his great anger against Israel, put them away out of his sight" (2 Kings 17:17-1Cool.
Do not even attempt to make abortion a reason as to you having a better relationship with the children you allowed to live!! Just because you were not equipped to care for a child does not excuse your abortion! Have you ever heard of ADOPTION!?! There are so MANY couples who would LOVE to adopt newborns! Oh and just so you know there are cells of your aborted baby living still in your body! Look it up and you will see what I am talking about.
And this, abortion, just like murder, is pretty black and white; the only grey area is self-defense (when it threatens your life).
Rape: is horrible and devastating, but guess what so are abortions (well if you have a conscience anyway). It is not the child's fault! Most women regret their abortions (the majority).
Also, while it is not only abortion that leads to breast cancer it does indeed increase your risk factor (look it up on the ABC link (google it)). Before a woman becomes pregnant she has type 1 lobules in her breasts; these are cancer vulnerable tissues. When she becomes pregnant her body makes more of these cancer vulnerable tissues that go through different types before they reach maturation (32 week of pregnancy) at which point they become cancer resistant! And if a woman loses her baby before the 32 week or gives birth before the 32 week she has a higher risk factor of breast cancer! So, yes, if you get and abortion before your lobules mature than you are indeed at a higher risk of getting breast cancer.
Lastly, people use abortion as a crutch to fall back on so they can basically do whatever (or should I say WHOever) they want! If you are going to have sex you better be ready to deal with the consequences!!! The LEAST of which is getting pregnant before you are ready to! I'm sure you have hear of STD's. Guess what? You get stuck with one of the viral ones you are pretty much screwed for life because you will give it to your significant other and any children you decide to biologically have if it does not kill you first. You get a bacterial one that is curable, there is still a high chance that you will not detect it before it has done some serious damage to your body. Serious damage that could cause infertility or lead to cervical cancer.

You have your beleifs, so don't have an abortion. You are wrong on just about every count, and you clearly have a major issue with re recreational sex. People who are so adamant yet so deluded often are often suffering from mental illness -- perhaps you need to see a counsellor to find out why abortion is such a touchy subject with you. Perhaps you would have been better off being aborted?

Number 11: the oath of Hippocrates states for all doctors who swear on it that:

". I will give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel; and in like manner I will not give to a woman a pessary to produce abortion. With purity and with holiness I will pass my life and practice my Art."

It saddens me to see so much religion pumped into an abortion debate. Religion has nothing to do with abortion.

Nikki23570: You say god doesn't have anything to do with abortion, yet you cited bible verses where you *think* abortion is supposedly wrong, even though abortion isn;t mentioned. If you're going to debate using religion or not using religion, stick to one of those 2, please.

Abortion is mentioned in the bible more times condoning it, rather than condemning it. Your god has condoned throwing infants against rocks, made women in Ephraim miscarry, there are abortion potions in the bible that cause an abortion if a woman has laid with a man other than her husband, and lots of other instances where he really couldn't give a crap less about children, yet the only thing that "condemns" it is the verse that talks about ONE particular person, not everyone.

So again, bringing religion into this debate is pointless.

A woman is allowed to govern her own body as she wants, she's allowed to consent or refuse the use of her body to whoever she wants, be it a man, woman, child, fetus, parasite, whatever, and the decision is ultimately up to her and her doctor, and her god/dess, if she so chooses. End of story.

Stop shoving your religion down people's throats, it's rude.
