For the past month or so I have been experiencing the following symptoms on and off.

Stuffy/runny nose OR congestion and the stuffy sound, but not actually being stuffy
horrid cough, non-productive OR crazy sore throat without the cough
fever
fatigue

At first, I was couch-ridden for like 3 days, congested but i could still breathe out of my nose, coughing, and feverish. Took OTC meds and in a few days it cleared up, I felt fine.

The second time, I felt terribly tired, feverish, and had the most painful sore throat i've ever had, with difficulty swallowing. I went to a clinic (i have no health insurance) and while i don't remember the doctor telling me what I had, she gave me an 8 day prescription of Amoxil (?) which I finished and felt great.

Two days after I finshed the 8 day prescription, I woke up through out the night because my nose was running terribly, and while my throat isn't really sore, my cough is scary loud and non productive... I feel some sort of fluid in my chest, but even after taking expectorants... nothing is happening. I'm seeing the doctor from the clinic again tomorrow, but I'm just so sick of being sick.

Hi rrrrebecca22,

In addition to following the doctors order, eat some hot chicken soup and drink plenty of liquids. Purchase a netty pot and a packet of saline solution to use in it. The instructions how to use both comes with it. Investing in a humidifier is a good thing as well.

Good Luck,

Faded Rose

Hi!

Don't worry, a lot of us are in the same boat at this time of year. It seems like you'll never be well again, but I promise you will. Smile

I had Swine 'Flu first (much the same symptoms as your first bout), followed by a secondary infection, very like tonsilitis (your second bout), and then a friend kindly gave me yet another cold after that. I was given Tamilfu for the first and Amoxycillin for the second, and just had to ride out the third.

Plenty of fresh fruit and veg, vits, hot soup, warm baths and relaxing is the way forward, I reckon. Don't get stressed putting pressure on yourself to get better, just take some time out to get well. Hope you feel better soon! xx

I had swine flu in November, then I had bronchitus a week later. Now I have a cold that comes and goes with the same symptoms as you! I've tried everything, and I think I'm going to have to go to the doctors soon.

Consider Acid Reflux instead of a virus.
I actually had these same symptoms and found out it was acid reflux.

I have to stop eating two hours before going to bed, raise my pillow, and take heartburn pills.

The acid was climbing up my throat and caused symptoms that were similar to a respiratory virus.

I also use a vaporizer at night during winter to protect my sinuses and throat (I sleep with my mouth open.) Since I've made these changes (and after an upper G.I. from a specialist), I haven't been sick for two winters.
