Prometrium vs. Duphaston which medicine

User Profile
Hi

I am 30 yrs old and planning to conceive child from past 5 months. Last 2 months I went through lots of cramping on my lower abdomen at left side and sometimes near belly button. i m taking prenatal and DHA.

In my current doctor visit, my doctors recommend me to take Prometrium (PROGESTERONE) from day after I predict my ovulation.

Now I m little confused. I did visit another doctor and she recommended these 2 medicines:

•Siphene (from day 2 of period to 7th day – total 6 day course) and
• Duphaston (Dydrogesterone, a progestogen hormone) course from 18th day to 27th day of month

I fall in 28- 30 day period cycle. Can someone please guide me here among Prometrium vs. Duphaston which medicine should I opt. And if it’s good for me?

Any suggestion is highly appreciated. Many thanks for helping me out.

Hi, and thanks for your medical question on eHealth forum!

Both methods are equally good. It depends on individual preference of doctor and your hormone report. Additional Siphene in the second prescription can increase ovulation and even cause multiple pregnancy. Take care!
