Hello. My daughter is 12 years old and she is 5'2" tall. She is currently shorter than all of her classmates. She is worried, will she ever be taller than them?

Hi, and thanks for your query on eHealth forum!

Well, at 12 years, 5'2" is not a bad height. Your daughter’s growth trajectory will depend on her family history. If generally everyone in her family is tall, she is likely to grow tall. Some girls have a growth spurt between 14-17 years and others may have it earlier or later. Growth spurt also comes with attainment of menarche-or start of periods.

Apart from the genetic factors, good nutritious diet and a well balance lifestyle incorporating some form of exercise is helpful in gaining good height. She can also practice stretch exercises and yoga.

Please consult your healthcare provider for further guidance. Hope this helped you in making an informed decision about your health. Take care!
