Third Trimester of Pregnancy Answer A31859
Hi, and thanks for your query on eHealth forum!

Since you are 36 weeks pregnant, they can be true labor pains. Ok you can do a simple test and see. Walk around or change position and see if the contractions stop or slow down. If they do it is a false alarm. Also such false contractions are felt only in lower abdomen and pelvis and not in the back. Their force does not increase with time. Such contractions are also called Braxton Hick’s contractions.

If the pains do not fit the above criteria, please consult an obstetrician immediately. Since I cannot examine you I cannot confirm anything for sure. So please be in touch with your obstetrician on a regular basis. Hope this helps. Take care!
