Possible to concieve on last day of periods ? (Page 1)

User Profile
Hi

I am 30 yrs and already have 2 kids. I had my periods on 1st of january and it lasted till 4th. I had intercourse on the last day unprotected. Now on 15th January i started vomiting and after that continuous nausea and lower back ache and dizziness. I have metallic taste in my mouth. And i also feel very clear cramps in lower abdomen. Sometimes a tugging sensation. I know it's not time for my periods.I also feel bloated. Is it really possible to concieve on last day of period? My normal cycle is 28-30 days. I'm a little worried and want to share my concern and would be anxiously waiting for response.

thx

Hello,

Welcome to the ehealthforum and I am really glad to help you out. Having unprotected intercourse on the last day of periods is unlikely to result in pregnancy. Moreover even if it resulted in pregnancy( very less likely), then it is too early to confirm that. Most likely it looks like gastroenteritis to me. Gastroenteritis is an irritation and infection of the digestive tract. Take adequate fluids throughout the day. The BRAT diet (i.e. bananas, rice, applesauce, toast) or soft easily digestible semisolid diet can also be taken. Antimicrobial therapy is indicated for some bacterial gastroenteritis infections.

However, many are self-limited and do not require therapy. The specific antibiotics are taken for specific bacteria after stool culture. For that you need to consult a physician. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care.

Hi,

It could be unlikely but not impossible.
So, you said your period was on the first, and you also mentioned that you have your period every 28-30 days. Meaning that your next expected period shoud be January 28-February 1st.
It is said, that women ovulate 2 weeks before their next period. Of curse, it is not a rule of thumb, you may ovulate after or before. So, your fertile time (approx) would've been:
January 14th, that's abou 10 days after sex. Sperm can survive up to a week on a woman's body, so you are pretty close to th date. AND if you ovulated earlier, even closer.
The symptoms, well, it could be something else, or pregnancy indeed. Although I do aree that it may be a bit early.

It has been 20 days since you last menstrual cycle, If pregnant you would be 20 days (even If you conceived on day 10). I have heard that you get better results around week 3, so if you can, wait until the end of the month. If you are anxious to know, you may test, but even if you are pregnant, you may get a negative result. Why don't you buy the box of 2 or 3 tests? Here in GA, I paid $8.00 for 2. I tested on Monday, If I was to be pregnant, I would be 3-4 weeks, and it came back negative. I have all the syptoms, and I just have the feeling. I might be wrong as It would be my first pregnancy and can't compare much.

No biggy. I am also going to wait until saturday. For now, let's pretend we are pregnant and take all the necessary care. :)We do not want to be sorry later, besides it won't harm us to act cautious.

I'd also like to correct some info with new one I found online regarding on how soon can you test:
When can I take a pregnancy test and get an accurate result?

It's best to wait about a week after you miss your period to take a home pregnancy test. By that time, most newly pregnant women have enough human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in their urine for the tests to detect it.

Many home pregnancy tests claim to be "greater than 99 percent accurate" and imply that you can use them as early as the day you miss your period, but a study published in 2004 in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology has shown that this can be misleading.

Researchers at the University of New Mexico evaluated 18 tests and found that only one was consistently sensitive enough to detect the levels of hCG that most pregnant women were likely to have on the first day of their missed period. Most of the other tests were able to pick up about 16 percent of pregnancies at that point.

I am not sure if this information is 100% right, but I have heard that your abdomen usually starts itching when you'r baby is already growing and your skin is streching. Anyway, all pregnancies are different. Did you feel the same with your other kids?
BTW, here is some info regarding pregnancy (if you are pegnant)
