Possible BP boyfriend, showing signs after 8 years

Most of these stories are hauntingly similar, EXCEPT the cheating aspect. However, that could be part of his highly insecure personality. He's 29 and we've been together for 8 years, and friends since childhood. I've just discovered his father was bipolar, and I don't have any idea how to discuss this issue with him, or how to help him seek professional help. His mother was too concerned with her extramarital affairs, when she should have considered the possibility of both her children being subjected through genetic makeup, as well as the unhealthy home environment from her 20+ year abusive marriage due to mental illness combined with drug abuse. Sad thing is, she's a nurse.

So now, what I am just supposed to leave him to handle things by means of denial? He has no support system, no friends that would give any indication something was possibly wrong with him?

Thank you for asking at Ehealth forum!

I read your question and would like to help

His sleeping with multiple parters can be due to hypersexuality which is a sign of bipolar disorder.
Having family history makes it very likely.
Bipolar episodes can he triggered by unhealthy family environment

You should get his psych evaluation done and build a support system for him.

I hope it helps. Stay in touch with your healthcare provider for further guidance as our answers are just for education and counselling purposes and cannot be an alternative to actual visit to a doctor.
Take care
