Polymenorrhea and menorrhagia

High i am 28 years old i had gal stone surgery on 7/18/09 and i am wondering can i still get pregnant the same year because just last month i had three periods and i no i have. been have sex with no protection because i am married i haven't been feeling sick but my attitude have change i just really want to no should i test now because the first period i had last month was normal and the second one was light and heavy but look like it wanted to stop early and when it did stop it was like it was come back down after two days because it came down a little two days after and the last one was pink not to dark but look almost regular and it came on the 11/28/09 and ended on 12/3/09 so now i am wondering is one even going to come are should i just take a test i have kids already but there pass five and i am just trying to see if i can even have anymore kids are did my surgery effect my chances and my period is just change are am i really pregnant and need to test to be on the safe side than

In all probability, you are not pregnant. If you want you can take a test now and see. It is likely that what you have is polymenorrhea (a number of periods) and menorrhagia (heavy periods). The other possibility is that it is a miscarriage, if you have a history of unprotected sex. In this case too the pregnancy test will come back positive for one month after a miscarriage.

Once in a while it is okay to have a slightly prolonged period. However, if this persists from cycle to cycle, it can be a cause of concern.

Other causes of heavy bleeding which should be ruled out are fibroids, adenomyosis, endometriosis, uterine polyps, hormonal imbalance, thyroid problems and bleeding disorders.

It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Consult a gynecologist regarding this.
