I have been diagnosed with mono...and my nasal passages are real congested and I have been blowing my nose pretty much non stop....last night I blew my nose and felt something come out...wasnt painful...and didnt make my nose bleed, it looked like a big blob of skin...kinda like the skin from a female after a cervical biopsy(i have had one so i know after a few days that happenes to a female)...but this came from my nasal was kind of a relief and i can breathe better for a while..and blowing my nose ceased til the next morning...I thought at first it was a polyp but it doesnt fit everyones description of a wasnt shaped a certain way and it didnt was just a big blob of skin about the size of a nickle, no particular shape to it...what could this have been? and could it be dangerous? even tho i feel fine?

Hi, welcome to the ehealth forum and I a glad to help you.
You seem concerned by the big blob of skin kind of thing coming out of your congested nasal passages following infection with EBV(mono).
The congested mucosa is highly friable and there might be miniature bleeds from the same due to any irritation just like repeated blowing of the and during the healing phase, a large blob of moist crust will form over the cracked mucosa. This is the healing scab and must be left along. If it is picked out, it will start the cycle all over again. Blowing the nose is usually safe though and will not disturb the healing scab but sometimes during the period a nose is healing, repeated blowing of the nose may occasionally cause it to bleed or the crust might come off as is the possibility in your case.
Nasal polyps on the other hand are due to a chronic nasal inflammation. The polyps are usually well bound to the base of the nose and can’t be expelled so easily by blowing the nose. The hard mass expelled from your nose could be some type blood coagulum mixed with dry nasal mucus (crust) as described above. You can consult an ENT-specialist for further help.
Hope this helps. Take care.
