passed something whitish the size of a golfball?

My daughter went in with bleeding at 7 weeks and an internal ultrasound was done, everything appeared fine ..At 8 weeks another internal ultrasound was performed, and she was told the baby had no heart beat that the body would flush itself.2 days later she returned to her doctor still bleeding and no further testing was done but dr said the 2nd ultrasound ultrasound showed an empty sac..(so we r confused why this wasnt told to us when the test was done instead of just no heartbeat) My daughter asked for another ultrasound to confirm b4 a d and c was scheduled..Drs say their is no need. The surgery was scheduled for this upcoming week. However for the past 2 days bleeding that was only spotty has increased (mostly only when she urinates and not to the point of filling pads ) and she has had severe back pain and a few lower abdomen cramps...About an hour ago she passed something about the size of a golf ball..She said it appeared whitish and covered in blood .We would like advice on what this could possibly mean ?
