Worried
Hi there,
I''m planning on getting a marsupialization done in two weeks. My cyst keeps coming back. For 1 year I was ok until now.The year before I had 4 bartholin cyst. The doctor finally had enough and told me about marsupialization. The only thin I''m worried about is will it always be open for the rest of my life?Or will it heal and the skin will close back up?How does that work?

bartholin abscess
Hi there
I have had many many cysts and abscesses over the last 10 years. Marsupialization is a hit and miss procedure and I had my latest one about a week ago. Still on the antibiotics and healing up ok.
Have spoken at length to many docs, surgeons and gynae's and am happy to answer anyone's questions that they have. Its an awful problem to have & not something anyone should go through alone

Hello Ladies,
I have had about 4 Bartholin's abscesses since 2004. I had the marsupialization done 7 days ago. I had the procedure done in the office and the procedure was not painful at all. I did feel a few of the needle sticks but when you have an infection it is hard to numb the area completely because the infection soaks up the numbing medicine. Immediately following the procedure I had relief instantly. I had some drainage that night of the procedure and a tiny bit the next day and that was it. I had sex on the 5th day after the marsupialization. My boyfriend is quite large and I was scared to try it but it was not painful at all and by that time all of my stitches had come out but one. I have a very high tolerance for pain and have had two c-sections that i was up and moving around 1 hour after recovery with no problems. Everyone is different but I feel bad for all of women that have to deal with these stupid things.

i just want to say that i had a marsupialization 10 days ago and i am healing fine. no further problems. but there is still some pain and i still cannot have sex. i just want to say to the women that deal with this problems that this surgery is totally safe and give you immediate relive. you just have to fallow doctors orders. take your medication and keep the area clean. the only hard thing is that you have to avoid all sexual contact. for 2 weeks.

Hello again. I just want to add that 14 days after my marsupialization. My antibiotics are finished. Now that the antibiotics are finished i noticed some yellowish flouid coming out of my fagina. I have not been in sexuall contact yet since the surgery. Most probable this is why i had the bartholin absess in the first place.
Thats why we should always check for anything unusual and take our pap tests evey wear.

I had a Bartholin cyst (quite under the skin) about a month ago. The doctor waited it to open up on its own. It did not; I was in bad pain and went to ER where they made an incision so that the puss will drain out. Within 2 weeks, the drainage stopped and doctor in the ER did the same thing again. After checking with my GYN, she recommended marsupialization under general anaesthesia. It went well. The doctor removed the packing on 4th day and said that it was healing good. The pain was almost zero, it drained for 5 days; could have sex without any pain on the 6th day. On the 8th day, however, there was a twitching pain especially after taking bath. I am supposed to see the doctor on the 14th day after the surgery.

bartholin marsupialisation
i have had three marsupialisations, two on the right side and one on the left. the first one on the right side did not hurt very much, but there was still a lump there (first of all tiny, but it grew) after the op and it came back. i waited another year then went to an excellent gynaecologist whilst on holiday in south africa and he did a successful marsupialisation - it was obvious right after the op that it was gone and it never came back.
last week i had a bartholin cyst operated on the left side though, and that has been very large ever since the op, they told me that the pus in there was too hard to remove completely. i never ever came across this potential problem on any blogs or websites, or in my previous experience. the stitches hurt, i think because the hard lump is pressing against them. maybe this is just due to my previous experience, but i think that if it's not obviously gone after the op, then it will come back.

Marsup done 2 weeksago
I have had a BC since after I had my daughter 5 years ago. It never caused me pain and the doctor told me if it wasn't causing pain then I didn't need to worry about. Well end of feb after AF I started to notice it getting a lot bigger! I still had no pain. I took baths and baths and baths. I was determined to pop it myself. I didn't want to go to the doctor. I had it for about 3 weeks and it started to get red and started to get very tender. It was the size of a golfball! I finally gave in an went to the doctor. They wanted to put a catheter in but I refused! I heard that his was more painful and I told the doctor I wanted a marsupialization. They scheduled me for a few days out to get it done. As soon as I got home that day PAIN oh it was sooo bad! I couldnt to anything and I was in bed all weekend on percocet and it wasnt even giving me relief! I would almost pass out every time I needed to get up. It was more painful than having a child! And I have had a C section and 100% natural birth! When surgery day came, my husband had to get a wheel chair to wheel me in. After the procedure I felt a little sore but it quickly went away. I felt sooo much better! It was like I was a new person. They gave me strong pain pills and ibuprofen. I only take the Ibuprofen like once or twice a day if I feel it kind of starts to hurt a little. It stings when I pee. But I looked at it and realized that the sore spot is where the cyst was starting to rupture before surgery. I have to say this is once of the best choices I made. I think that diet has to do a lot with what your body does. I was eating out a LOT before this happened. It was for about a month that I ate out and was not used to it. I always made healthy dinner. I think the sugary processed food is what made it finally get so big and infected. Good luck everyone these things suck. And surgery seems scary but OMG the pain is so bad I just couldn't wait till surgery. Find a good Gyno and go with him/her.

I had my op done in March, and almost in July now I still have pain! Always hurts when I have sex and even when Im not! The Dr. said my body was rejecting the stitches and that he had to go 2-3 inches deeper then he expected due to the years and years of having cysts, they never healed or drained completely. Im 27 now and have this problem since I was 16. The cysyts have gotten bigger then golfballs at times..many bad expeirences at emergency rooms as well. I get a mirror to look at my incision and it is smaller length wise but doesnt seem closed.. should I be as worried as Iam and make an emergency appt.? Im having slight pain/discomfort as Im typing this!!

I had surgery on 1 JUN 11 and the cyst and gland are gone. The pain from this procedure was (and still is) VERY painful. The skin is stretched so tight that it constantly burns and feels like a knife is being jabbed into your labia. The bone feels bruised and so far....I think I'd have rather had this thing drained instead of surgery. The pain still stops me in my tracks and makes me stand completely still until the jabbing subsides. I wish I hadnt had this done! I think this pain will be here forever...By the way, unless you have ten year degree in OB/GYN dont even think about looking at my woo-woo!!! I am fully prepared to go the rest of my life without sex. I have a hole in my skin, my woo-woo is no longer smooth. I can feel the inside when I use the bathroom. This procedure has adveresly changed my life. Cant sit like a lady, crossing your legs starts hurting and quick movements hurts. Dont do it ladies. Drain it and drive on!

PAINFUL side effects from marsupialization bartholins cyst
I had surgery on 1 JUN 11 and the cyst and gland are gone. The pain from this procedure was (and still is) VERY painful. The skin is stretched so tight that it constantly burns and feels like a knife is being jabbed into my vagina. The bone feels bruised and skin is constantly throbbing... and so far....I think I'd have rather had this thing drained instead of surgery. The pain stops me in my tracks and makes me stand completely still until the stabbing pain subsides. I wish I hadnt had this done! I think this pain will be here forever... I have a very defined hole in my skin, it is no longer smooth. I can feel the inside of my vagina when I use the bathroom and clean myself. This procedure has adversely changed my life. Cant sit like a lady, have to sit sideways, crossing your legs starts hurting and quick movements hurts. Cant sleep on my side anymore unless I have a pillow crammed all the way up to my vagina decreasing the pressure from my legs. I have to sleep on my stomach with legs spread apart! The skin along side my vagina is 1/2 numb, 1/2 awake (like when your hand goes to sleep and the pain wakes you up and it hurts so bad while the blood starts flowing to your hand again) Dont do it ladies. Drain it and drive on! This was a huge life changing mistake!!!
Its not the gland thats hurts ladies. its gone...its everything around it that hurts (worse than childbirth)! I say that because childbirth pain goes away....this doesnt!!

Still have hardened dime sized abscess after marsupialization
I have a question. I went in for the marsupialization surgery 6 weeks ago for my 4cm bartholyn cyst. I did the recommended sitz bath for a couple weeks after the procedure then stopped. When i went for the follow up appointment with my Gyne (6 weeks after the surgery date) she said i still have a dime sized hardened piece of abscess! I've been doing sitz bath twice a day for a week now, but the hardened piece of abscess won't turn from solid to liquid and ooze out.

What can i do! HELP!

Bleeding months after marsupialization??
I had the marsupialization about... 8 months ago? And I've always had a little swelling in the area after sex, but eventually it would drain, usually overnight while I slept or in the shower. However, a few days ago the bump got large and started to hurt again like it used to. I took some antibiotics and soaked the area to help it drain. This morning, when I woke up, it had bled out. It's still bleeding a little from the incision. Is this normal?? I'm concerned. Please help!

Marsup Soon... Kinda Scared
Hi all, I'm going to be scheduled soon for a marsup... quite scared , since there has been a mix of great and awful reviews. I have had a Bart's Cyst since I was 15 years old (2005). At that point I had never been sexually active in any way and was very scared. I went to a doctor because I had noticed this strange lump was a bit painful and quite uncomfortable. Anyhow, she popped it for me, which relieved the pain, and gave me anti-biotics which helped it go away. When I turned 19, I became sexually active (very seldomly) and only slightly noticed 'Bart' but not to the point where it was painful or uncomfortable from what I can remember. But now I am 22 and have been having my first steady sexual relationship with my boyfriend for about 2 months now. About 2 weeks in to our sexual relationship, all of a sudden 'Bart' has swelled up to the size of a golf ball!! It became so uncomfortable to pee, sit, stand, walk, and of course have intercourse. After I noticed that 'Bart' had gotten to that size, I went and had it drained which was the most painful experience I think I have ever encountered. The doctor I seen was actually in awe on the size of my cyst, and since I wanted her to pop it she did... Except for the fact that she stabbed my cyst area about 3 times, in which I was crying in agony, THEN she says to me "Oh I'm sorry, maybe I'll freeze you" Yah, after I'm already in pain?? Gee thanks. Anyhow, I went to a gyno yesterday and she recommends for me to have 'Bart' marsupialized, and I am absolutely terrified! The way she described the procedure seemed like it was easy... until I saw a diagram of what marsupialization looks like and started doing my own research from reading other womens' stories. And the fact that they only locally sedate me is probably what I'm scared about because even when I had my cyst drained recently, I could still feel pain even though I was supposedly frozen. I really wish they would put me to sleep, but apparently the local anesthetic works... I wish there was more awareness about this kind of cyst, because I am the only person I know that has a 'Bart' but apparently there are ALOT more women out there that have it than I thought. I really hope I will be lucky enough to heal properly without any complications, nerve damage or a huge hole !!! Are there any ladies out there who can describe exactly what this drainage hole is about?? How big is the hole actually??
