I had a bad dry cough for about a week and had sour throat which caused severe pain while swallowing even my saliva. I visited the nearby medical store and was given a cough syrup which helped with the cough but I have this popping pain in my ear. I have had many dry cough before and have experienced soar throat but the pain in my ear is new and I wonder if it was caused by the cough because it started while I was coughing along with soar throat. Please advise. Thanks.

Based on your description it appears to be acute pharyngitis. The throat needs to be examined. If there is sufficient evidence of a bacterial infection then a throat swab for rapid strep test and culture sensitivity testing should be taken and antibiotics can be started in consultation with your doctor.
