I have this dull pain on my left knee for over a year now. The pain becomes more significant the longer i let my leg in the same position overtime(either bent or stretched). To release the discomfort and ease the pain for a bit I need to either stretch or bend my knee which creates the cracking sound. I have to do this every few minutes. What is most likely the cause of this and do i have to worry?
At first I just keep telling myself that it's a normal wear and tear situation due to my every Saturday basketball. But every now and then I keep worrying because it's been so long already. Thank you

General Q and A Answer A61393
Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

You didnt mention your age. Based on your description of the symptoms, its likely to be osteoarthritis. However, acute inflammation of the joint or associated bone bruising and cruciate ligament tears are also included as possibilities if the onset of the symptoms was acute. NSAIDs , knee immobilization and bed rest would suffice as treatment for the latter.

Wishing you best of health
